I don't know if there are any other ways to get rid of these annoying things, but I had a small ganglion developing on my left wrist and was quite painful at the beginning. My chiropractor in the USA (I'm now in UK and don't have a chiropractor here) had a look at it and used his chiropractic neck tool on it for about 4 weeks, once a week (looked a bit like a pen and had a pull-back, release mechanism that I guess helps to straighten atlas/axis bones. Used right behind the ear usually). The tool had the same effect as a heavy object but much more precise and probably less painful too. It went away and hasn't come back since, that was about 2 years ago. The only other option is surgery, but all the websites I looked at regarding my own said that ganglions can come back very easily and it's alot of trouble and pain to go through if it's only going to return later on.

I have a ganglion on the top of my hand. Went to an ortho doc, he tried to aspirate the thing, but I passed out. So we decided to have it surgically removed. When the dressing was taken off it was back. Had it removed again, same thing. I still have it. Maybe I had a bad doctor, but after doing research I found out that they do come back. If it isn't affecting you, I would suggest doing nothing.

A ganglion is a cyst, which is a fluid filled sac. If you "bang it with a Bible" (or other heavy object), you can break the sac and the fluid will be absorbed.

Most of the time, the sac will heal over and the fluid will re-accumulate.

Ganglions can be removed surgically. The sac itself is removed so the fluid will not build back up. It is a simple outpatient procedure.

I had an orthopedic surgeon take two out. Out-patient surgery and a few stitches. The worst part was one was in my right forearm and one was in my right thigh. I had to drive a straight-shift pickup truck home after surgery and couldn't feel the gas pedal or the gear shift because of the anesthetic. Made for an interesting drive.

You should see an orthopedic surgeon who will take care of it properly.
