"Christians" always say that when faced with equal rights issues. Christianity doesn't work well with democratic goverment. Never has. Worked real well with emporers, kings, queens, and tyrants, but not too good with democracy.
Long before I ever had gay sex my step father tried to beat the "fag" out of me. I was grounded, forced into counseling to "reprogram" me, and had to spend several hours a day reading the bible and praying... and this was before I ever even knew that there were gay people in the world other than me. I had never met or had a conversation with a homosexual. All I knew was that I had romantic and eventually sexual feelings for guys. No matter how many girls I dated and made out with... and eventually slept with, I still had these overwhelming desires to love and be loved by a MAN.
I had heterosexuality shoved down my throat for so long I lost my gag reflex. When I turned 21 and divorced the wife I married to turn me straight I decided to just accept who and what I am and get on with my life. God had over 10 years to make that change and never did... now it's time for me to be the best person I can be... gay person.
I'm now 39. I have a partner I've been with for 16 years. I have a home, a car, a pretty yard, a career, 3 dogs, and a great life. If I had taken the advice of heterosexuals who don't get it, I'd still be miserable trying to be something I'm not... just to make THEM feel better. What's up with that?
IF YOU THINK BEING GAY IS WRONG... DON'T BE GAY!
leave the rest of us alone!
If you had a sex life of your own, you wouldn't be so interested in mine!

News flash: bigotry never really dies. People get called names all the time, and not just for their "sexual orientation". Virgins get mocked for abstaining. Sexually active women are called "whores" and "sluts" and all sorts of other vile names. Oddly, a sexually active male is never mocked. I really don't get that!!!
I wear glasses. I've lost count of the times I was called "four eyes". I had braces too. Yup. I was mocked for that.
How many racial slurs can you come up with, just to make a list?
In some ways, this world really sucks. It seems that many
people NEVER LEAVE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, no matter
how old they get. They never grow beyond putting others down, to make themselves feel better.
Fighting for legal rights will not make ANYBODY stop calling
you names. To do that, you have to reach the core of the person
doing the cursing. Legalism won't change anything.
BTW, contracts already exist. Hospitals let the patient
decide who may or may not visit them. Anybody not on the patient's list, can't even find out if that person is in the hospital! As long as a will has been properly made out and sealed, it is binding.
And yes, Christians are having "homosexual rights"
shoved down their throats. In Canada now, it is a HATE CRIME for a Christian minister to read aloud verses from the Bible ANY VERSES CONDEMNING HOMOSEXUALITY. I'm not saying that the minister is proposing violence: the law says that if a
minister says "our God says this is a sin", that the minister has committed a hate crime, and can go to jail!
Is the future going to be, that a Christian minister cannot be "excused" from performing a homosexual wedding, because it would violate his conscience? When will having a different conscience become a hate crime? It seems like the foundation
is already being set in place.

I grew up in the Netherlands, and i still can't believe all the stuff that some christians puke out onto this forum about homosexuality.
Of course you should have equal rights, period. Like every human being.
However, i do think that the gay rights movements should start using better PR people. Most of these christians have never even seen a homosexual in real life. They only condemn people based on what they see on TV. When they see a gay parade (i've marched in many as a straight defender of gay rights), they only see the colorful transvestites, and they assume that the whole of homosexuality is like that.
PR should start by naming it "equal human rights movement", not gay rights. Furthermore, no more gay parades, just human rights parades.
I truly believe it would help the just cause in a huge manner. It's almost unfair to ask to adjust yourself to the bigoted homophobes a little, but changing words in pr can sometimes make a huge difference.
There are no gay rights, as there are also no straight rights. There are only human rights.

I think it's a Freudian slip on their part.
I feel that people should be able to choose their life partner (no matter gender or race, or whatever) and have the equal rights as any hedro couple (including marraige if people so choose). I myself am hedro...but that's just the way I am, and I feel that people should be able to be...whoever they are, however they are...without discrimination! It's stupid to put laws restricting love/relationships between people...where some can get married...have hospital visitation rights...ect...and some can't.
The other thing I want to say here is this...
Modern Christianity has fallen *far* from where it should be. I myself no longer claim christianity because of how rediculous it has become. It no longer follows the "footsteps" of who they call their Christ, but has become a political play toy, or an excuse to be bigots, or worse. But try not to blame Jesus for the jerks who raise hell against your way of life.

My son is gay, he is how God made him. It isn't a lifestyle choice. He is only 20, and so hasn't gone (yet) through some of what you are talking about. But, he received death threats in high school (from "Christians") (mostly other guys) and has experienced some prejudice. I don't understand why, he doesn't bother anyone, and your first impression of him is not, oh, he's gay, but oh, he's an interesting smart person who happens to be gay. I understand what the issues are, just to be recognized as a partnership and have the freedom to choose who you want to take care of you if you are ill, or benefits if your partner passes away. I don't think it's too much to ask for.

I am a Lesbian and I consider myself married to my partner. We have 3 kids. Our life is just as "normal" as the next hetro living next door to us,, only if one of us dies then our children's lives will be in a tail spin. We go to work, we pay taxes and we love each other!!!
And as far as the comments made in the answers here that our gay parades or gay days stick in the minds of hetro's with our drag queens and such as being perversed people,,,,, well let me tell you the dirty little secrets of the straight people!!!! I know of some that the men are straight but they like to play "dress up",, and they like to having swingers parties/ orgies,, or they just plain go around and cheat on their spouses left and right (men and women).
So, yeah,, there are some sick people in the world and some are gay & some are straight!!!!
We live in a world where we are the minority and we know that one day we can meet up with a psycho and just because we do not conform to their idea of "right" that we can get hurt really bad.
So, yes, the United States needs to revise their Civil rights to include GAY people.

Buddy... speaking from both sides of the fence I would say Christians ARE getting it shoved down their throat. Now, I dont have a problem with gays but I have a problem with anyone, gay, straight or otherwise flaunting their sexuality in my face. I wouldnt do it, what I do in my bedroom isn't anyones business but mine, my perspective partner's and God's. All these Gay Pride Parades just make matters worse, it makes all gays look like flaming perverts. Ive never heard tell of someone "converting" to the "gay is ok" side from seeing the parades. I do however see people learning to look past a persons sexuality when they spend time with them and find they are just as normal as the next guy but have something different going on.
There are many people who dont believe it's good to be gay and thats fine. No one can make them change their minds. It's like trying to force smoking on to a nonsmoker. The nonsmoker is never going to suddenly think smoking isnt harmful, but they MIGHT learn to love you regardless if you just respect them and dont blow your smoke in their face.

I'm with you 100%. I happen to be a straight male myself, but have family members who are not. The problem with a lot of fundamentalist Christians is that they are simply hypocritical ignorant bigots. And I know I'm opening myself up for a good flaming here, but that's the way I see it.
People are generally afraid of things they know nothing about and many Christians know nothing of homosexuality. If I had grown up without it being present in my life, I might have a completely opposite answer to this one. But since I consider myself very educated on the subject matter, I have a differing opinion than many. Homosexuals are not evil, they are not going to destroy the fundamental values of American Democracy, nor are they going to be the bringers of the Armageddon. In fact, if it weren't for gay men, most of you would be sitting in churches devoid of any music or art. Where do you think most of this came from? All they are asking for is to be treated like human beings. But since they don't have heterosexual sex they are to be treated as sub-human? I don't think so.
I don't think it matters though. Humans will ultimately be their own undoing as it is in our nature to cling to beliefs that have no factual representation and we will die fighting to protect them. Look at the current conflicts in the world. Most are going on due to religious beliefs and claims. I yearn for a more enlightened society than the one I live in today. Maybe in the next life...

Coming from someone who thinks what your doing is wrong, I don't think you should have the rights that we do. In my eyes, homosexuality is a sin. plain and simple. This country was built around God. God does not believe in homosexuals. I'm sorry if this offends you, but I believe it to be true. As for the fa**ot thing, that's just rude. I don't care if you are a homosexual, knowone has the right to say that to you. A true Christian, catholic, whatever would not say that to you. Even though we don't accept what you do, God wants us to love everyone and be respectful. i hope it didn't offend you with anything. We just have different beliefs!! :)

I’m not a Christian, nor am I gay or a homophobe, but the one thing that stands out in my mind is the “gay pride parades” or “gay day” at an amusement park. You never hear of a “strait pride parade”, or “strait day”. Gay lobbyists are the only ones who make an issue of sexuality. Just be yourself and go on about your life like every other sexual deviant.
