When Flying think about the followings:
1. Two pilots sitting in the cockpit have famlies too. If they are not concerned about the passengers at least they are concerned about their own families & will try their best to save the plane.
2. An aircraft is built to fly upside down also...it's very strong. The aircraft wings are so strong that they can be bent up & down 6 feets each side.
3. A person can survive after falling from a hill and can die while laughing (cardiac arrest...or sneezing-leading to heamorage). So why afraid...?
Other suggestions:
a. Read "Bhagvada Gita".
b. During flight hold your breath for a while & release. The objective is to build up some carbon dioxide (not oxygen!) which calms a person. If you start 'slow breathing---slow inhale & exhale' continously then it will make the things worst and may lead to anxiety attacks.

There are classes called "Fear of Flying" these take a few weeks until you are OK to fly, you even get to fly in a light aircraft with an instructor. They tell you how an aircraft flys and how to enjoy the flight. When you are on the plane, look about, look out the windows, think of it as a very big car and you have a driver that knows all about flying. If you are flying over Australia, get a map and ruler (join the dots from takeoff to landing) look to see where your flight is likely to travel, see if you can see any of the landmarks you found on the map, eg big towns or rivers. But most of all Enjoy yourself.

i'm usually nervous the entire ride...and dont do much, but here's some stuff you can do...
1. Get up any walk every so often. If you stay seated too long on the plain, you can loose circulation to your legs and bad things happen. You can see a plane ride as a long car ride without the pitstops yet more entertaining.
2. Having a variety of things to do is also good. It's hard to concentrate when you're squeezing yourself into an unaturally small space.
3. You can also meditate, or at least try if you're not that type of person!
That's a couple things you can do.... but try this site below, theres much more!

DON'T DRINK, no matter what the baby above me says! Alcohol's effects get waaay worse the higher your altitude is. Calm yourself down by knowing that incredibly well-trained people are flying the plane, and it's amazingly safe. I'm studying flight and getting my pilot's license, and now that I understand how it all works, I'm not afraid of any part of it. The pilot is briefed for every problem that could possibly occur. People in the ATC, air traffic control tower, are also very intelligent and have experience, so if something did come up, they could get you out of it in no time. The physics of flying are amazing, too! There's absolutely nothing to be afraid of... it's so much fun! I love flying!

i love flying...i am on at least 20 planes a year. but just recently i have been getting sick sometimes! i mean, i never actually threw up because i just held it in as much as possible. so i just take some motion sickness medicine an hour before take-off.
i don't know how some people are afraid of flying...if it is turbulence you're afraid of, just close your eyes and imagine that you are on a bus or in a car

Tell your doctor you are nervous and hopefully you will be given a prescription. My friend and I were afraid of flying to California from the East coast and were given 5 pills each of Ativan. Worked wonders, wasnt nervous at all.

Headphones with some decent music, good magazine to read and if your old enough to drink, have 3. The chance of a crash is minimal compared to driving. Talk to the airline host for other helpful hints.
Keep and eye open for mice....

divaterry 1 has it except for the mice(LOL) The reason they serve alcohol on planes is to soothe your nerves. You may want to have one good strong one before you get on the plane. Good luck, you'll be fine.
