yes and no. first of all, you don't have to worry about getting avian flu unless you are handling birds in southeast Asia. once a pandemic flu occurs, which most likely will come from a mutated avian strain, it wont matter if you're a vegetarian cannibal omnivore or whatever. you sound like someone who is confused about all the news stories on pandemic flu and bird flu and everything. go to www.pandemicflu.gov
this will answer all your questions about it and give you some great advice on planning for a pandemic.

It is very difficult to catch avian flu. Cooking the bird kills the virus. Those who catch the this virus usually live in very close quarters with infected birds. So if you live with a bunch of infected birds, then yes you can catch avian flu even if you don't eat the birds...

Hmm... if you killed them and ate them it might even improve your chances against catching it...heh.

You cannot get the bird flue from eating meat, unless you eat it raw. You can get the bird flu from spending a lot of time around dead birds infected with it. You could also get it if it starts spreading from person to person, but apparently it hasn't started doing that yet.

pretty much any one who is "consorting" with a chicken can get bird flu. Transmission from animal to human has only come from vector (air) borne transmission as far as I know.

As long as there are birds flying over your respective land or country, you are succeptable to the avian flu. My advice to you is to have a good time pretty fast, because its all going to the ******* birds.

The disease isn't contracted by merely eating birds. There is no way to be safe, except to avoid all contact with animals, including humans.

yes, you don't get it from eating the bird, you get it like all other air borne illnesses.

if it mutates to humans then being around chickens is the least of your worries!
