Hypnosis is always dangerous. False memories can be implanted by misuse of the procedure and hypnosis in general is a quack remedy; the best way to lessen anxiety is through a procedure called systematic desensitization where the subject slowly works up to facing the cause of the anxiety.

Are you speaking religously? Most religions teach that hypnosis "opens the mind to outsides forces, or demons" because your in a suggestible state and its true that you are in a suggestible state, and have opened yourself to new things, so take from that what you may.

However, in scientific and theraputic terms hypnosis can be great. It allows greater access to the unconscious. Its greater access to the "root personality" or at least closer to it, to feed triggers to help stop smoking, drinking, eating and a number of other things, stress being another item. All you need to do, is realize the "symptoms" of stress to stop it. I recommend going to Books-A-Million, Barns and Nobles, or another bookstore with books on CD's and getting a book on hypnosis/stress, etc.

Do you start to worry, move alot, shake your hands, get up and walk, etc? These are some stress indicators. When you start recognizing your own symptoms LOOK OUT FOR THEM and then FREEZE where you are and treat the source of your stress. That is, take away its control. Sit down, call someone and get your mind off of it, think of your kids, family or something happy. Do not give in to it. Shake it off, physically. Hypnosis isn't the only way : )) Good luck.

My daughter (20) and myself suffer from sever anxiety. She tried everything under the sun to help releave the stressors that anxiety can cause. She did try hypnosis, and as everything else it did not help in the way that she was hoping for. I think that you need to ask questions from the person that is actually going to be doing the hypnosis. Ask them about their success rates, and also make it a point to ask if there will be any reaccuring sideeffects. I hope that this will help. Good luck finding something that will help you eleviate your anxiety.

Can hypnosis be dangerous if it is used to reduce anxiety? The answer is yes. My aunt recently became catatonic after a single session of hypnosis in which the hypnosis practitioner attempted to reliever her of her anxiety of flying on airplanes. MRI's have shown she has normal brain activity, yet she has ceased to respond to anyone, requires a live-at-home nurse, and shows no sign of recovery.

Self hypnosis is supposed to have a more lasting effect on the mind than meditation although meditation provides more immediate relief. I like the book Inspiration by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer.

This is what I heard that I am passing on... That when a person lets their will be opened up to suggestions, anything can enter in. It can lead to a doorway that the devil can use to get into you. Sure you can overcome one problem with it but then you open yourself up to many more. As the bible says that the devil only comes to kill, steal and destroy. Doesnt sound like an enitity that I would like having access to me when he wanted. With that in mind, its up to you.
