Yes they need to come out.
Get them done now, so that you're not suffering like I did when I got all 4 - tops and bottoms pulled over Thanksgiving holiday.
I couldn't eat a thing.
I didn't get knocked out, only lidocane. You don't need to get knocked out. Wisdom teeth sit on the top, the impacted teeth under the gumline are what's giving you the most problem.
Mine never came in straight and were horizontal <---> sitting on top of the gum after they took off the wisdom tooth. They just came right out!
The infection in your mouth will only get worse, an infection in your mouth can lead to heart disease, no joke...
Additionally, just remember that every time you open your mouth to speak, laugh or eat... people can smell that foul mouth rot coming out of your face.
Get those things taken out now!

Ok She would have had to have an x ray done and i'm sure the dentist would have referred her if they could not do it. The risk is the same with the nerve on the mandible (lower jaw) even with a oral surgeon. The dentist and Oral surgeon will both warn her of the tiny risk involved by taking out wisdom teeth. I had mine done at the dentist for a lot cheaper and it was fine, didn't hurt (Well till the anaesthetic wore off lol) Only problems you can get is a dry socket...where the bone of the jaw is on contact with the air but that doesn't usually happen. Also you can get some re accuring infection if you don't keep your mouth clean afterwards. smoking doesn't help afterwards. All I can say is your friend will be fine, get her to eat something sugary before the anaesthetic so she doesn't feel faint. Take painkillers after the extraction and all will be good. Use mouthwash and try to still brush your teeth around the holes even if it is a bit painful. She will be ok at the dentist.

Getting your wisdom teeth removed (especially by an oral surgeon) is a scary prospect, no doubt, however you should try to keep in mind that most people have to get theirs removed at some time or another. If you decide to go with being put to sleep expect to be somewhat disoriented and maybe mildly nauseous after you wake up. The doc'll be sure to hook you up with stuff for pain so that won't be much of a problem for you. Should you decide to stay awake the worst you'll have to go through is the sting of the needle when the doc numbs you up. After that there are some fairly scary crunching sounds, and some pressure, but no real pain. Good luck!

Did you have dental x-rays done? They would determine what is underlying the gums where the human eye cannot see. Valium is a muscle relaxant, it is one of many drugs of choice as a pre-med out there...depending on what the anesthetist likes.
If they said it is to be done then I would listen up...I have nursed many a person who delayed this and then they have more trouble than it is worth...they get infected right up to the ear and have to have the tooth out anyhow including the surgeon having to put in a few drains that come from the gum out through your chin to help drain away the collected pus
Either way, if you have to have it then do it...you may still look like a chipmunk for a little while after wards..and then there is no looking back because your problems will be over.

Get it over and done with and then you can stop worrying about it. The longer you leave it the more you are going to stress about it. You do need to have them out or you wouldn't have been told by two separate professionals that they have to go. Having no pain is not a sign that you don't have an infection. A chronic infection often causes no pain or discomfort. Also make sure you get the oral surgeon to take them out (not the dentist), that is what they do best.

It would be a good idea to get a second opinion, as dentist have been known to do un-necessary work for the money. You SHOULD have second thoughts about being put asleep. The only time people die at the dentist are from the anethesia or from catching aids from their dentist. For that reason I only use dentists that have a family. You CAN TAKE IT. I had mine out while I was awake. And I'm a weak little girl. They give you lots of novacaine. Most people do need to get their wisdom teeth out.

I got a few teeth pulled a year ago. There was no pain, but they bled for a few hours. They give you laughing gas before the IV that knocks you out, so you don't really care about anything. I really enjoyed the laughing gas. They monitor your heart rate and blood pressure just to make sure nothing unexpected happens. After you wake up you still feel blurry and I can't remember all of it, but I was shaking and another girl was hiccuping. Wisdom teeth are a little worse, but the experience shouldn't be too horrible.
If your dentist tells you that you need to have the teeth pulled, you can get a second opinion from another dentist. If they have a good reason for the teeth to come out, have them out. It won't be horrible, and you won't regret it.
About the Valium. Look up its effects and side effects. Drugs.com is a good source for them. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about it if you aren't sure about its effectiveness or safety.
Good luck!

If they are impacted, they definitely need to come out. Trust the professionals, it will only get worse if they don't come out.
If you're put to sleep, you shouldn't feel a thing. I wasn't even put to sleep, they just put me in a twilight where I was still awake, and shot me full of novocaine. Take the valium, and they will numb you up before doing it. It's not that bad. Just keep taking the pain pills, and it won't hurt that much.
