Okay, this is the part where you call me a smart@$$ gringo S.O.B., then tell me all the nasty things you're going to do to my wife, and how much she's going to enjoy it. After that, you can tell me how you're going to rip off my head and *excrete* down my neck. You all know the drill.

When labor wasn't so cheap, we simply paid more for those goods and services. A couple of generations ago, there was a much smaller immigrant workforce, and as a result, people spent a lot more of their paychecks on the bare necessities than people do today. The good side was that quite a few lower-skilled jobs paid a living wage (often enough to afford a mortgage and a new car), but not much beyond that. I will admit that generation was taxed a lot less too, which had to have helped. Still, it would probably blow their minds to see how much more disposable income most people have today after meeting basic needs.

The old generation got by with far fewer luxuries and by avoiding cheap crap that breaks and needs replacing every year or two. They saved their money, lived modestly, bought quality goods that could actually be fixed, and as a result, many retired rich as a result of their discipline and frugality. If they needed something, they usually had to pay an honest price for it because they were buying it from some other legal worker. Most of them probably did not feel like they deserved a bunch of indulgences that they could only afford if an entire underclass was trucked in to do the work for pennies on the dollar.

This brings up a question I find particularly interesting:
What in holy hell went so wrong in Mexico that people there are now willing to risk life and limb to illegally sneak into America just to join her underclass?

I'm not going to call you names and be nasty, other than to point out that you are showing off racisim and stupidity here.

The Mexicans did NOT single-handedly invent manual labor. That the statment shows HUGE ignorance. Maybe you have been sitting out in the sun too long and got a headache? Must be... or something similar... otherwise why would you invite people to be mean to you?

Manual labor has been around for a LONG time. Pioneers often did nothing but manual labor. Unfortunately, employers often will hire the cheapest labor available and that often is immigrants who are often here illegally. If there were not so many uneducated, illegal immigrants in this country, LEGAL AMERICANS would have more jobs.

The United States has always found a group of unfortunate people to help support the country. First, there were Native Americans. They lost their lands, women were raped, etc. Then came the enslavement of African Americans. With much trouble, and after a civil war, that was abolished. However, American ingenuity came up with the indentured servants and share croppers. Child labor was also all the rage for a while. In order to construct the railroads Americans used Japanese and Chinese immigrants. Currently, many immigrants, NOT just Mexican immigrants work doing manual labor.

Many, immigrants, such as myself, are teachers, doctors, lawyers, scientists etc. In fact, the majority of immigrants I know are wonderful professionals. My children's pediatrician is a Spanish immigrant. My neighbor, who is an engineer is from Panama, my children's teachers are both immigrants. I am a Mexican immigrant and am also a teacher.

As you see...I did not have to resort to your level of ignorance to answer your question. However, before you make outlandish claims you may want to consult a US History book, research and support your opinions with facts.

I live in Iowa , I grew up here ... there was a time when it was common place for people to be hired for manual labor like bailing hay, detassling corn, walking bean (walking between the rows, and cutting out the weeds manualy). Now adays , you can see Mexicans doing this type of stuff.. but we did it before, it gave us the character we needed .. It was the little things that make us the proud poeple we are .

You're so much fun Bucky. That's a good question. To hear them tell it, you would think that it is a marvel we didn't starve to death or own lawn mowers or have someone build houses. My God...how did we survive?!!! lmao

They really over estimate their worth.

And to the idiot that said "we do more in one month than you do in a day." You don't know what you are talking about. My husband works 6 days a week at a hard job, one the illegals don't have brains to do. He never misses a day, comes home exhausted, and never complains and guess what? He doesn't have to lie LIKE YOU and say he is someone else and he doesn't have 20 different IDs in his pocket. He can be proud of who he is. You can't.

To the clever clogs who spouted on about having slaves ... hmmm ... slavery was abolished quite a number of years now dear ... and was never very prominent in the northern states in any case ... and between the abolition of slavery, and the massive influx of illegal aliens ... we actually had AMERICANS working the fields ... and doing manual labor ... yep, promise!! And you know what? They could do it again, if anyone hired them ... just a little matter of paying livable wages .... so the answer is ...the US got on very well without illegals ... and will do again ... :)

Manual labor was never "invented." It has always existed. What do you think we did before machines? Manual labor. And white Americans aren't necessarily lazy, they are just smarter than the Mexicans.

There was slavery, and then there were a lot more manufacturing companies in the U.S, sweat shops actually. The industrial age brought about more pollution than there is now in America anyway, and 14 hour days for 12 year olds.

Manual labor will always be the skill of the lesser educated in our society. The lesser educated in our society at this time are the illegal immigrants and those that cannot speak the language of this country...English.
