My friend leaves out a glass of wine. That seems to do the trick for her. The flies/gnats are attracted to it, and can't get back out..

have a clean house, keep the doors closed as much as possible. Flies only have a couple day life span they will die off in a week or so. But you can get a bug zapper, one of those tacky, tacky strips just for a day or 2.. Get a cat. my cats loved to chase a fly when it got into the house and the little boogers always got it.

Well, first you have to figure out what they are caused from. Are you leaving your doors and windows open often? Or do you have a real problem? I had a friend who had old potatos in her basement and didnt know it, so thats where her flies came from. So when she figured that out, she got rid of that, and then had to bomb the house.

Freeze the house (makes them immobile.) Get rid of the rotting carcasses laying around?

Too much trouble? Use screens! Don't let them in in the first place. I'll try the glass of wine thing myself if I ever have this problem.
