Cinder blocks are more sturdy and last longer. They block noise and are cheap. A cinder block house wouldn't burn down in 5 minutes. Hurricanes, flooding, or trees wouldn't knock it over. You could put any siding on the house you wanted and it would look normal. If someone was going to spend $200,000 on a house, why get a low quality one when a cinder block house would cost 1% more? If you were building a house, would you make the (outside) walls out of 2x4's or cinderblocks?
What is the reason? Please tell me you sources.

My house in Florida had cinder block outer walls. In fact, most of the homes there were cinder block with stucco over them.
I think that building materials are almost regional in nature. Builders use the materials that are prevalent in an area and which people in that area are used to seeing/buying. Sure, wood is available in Florida and cinder blocks (really concrete blocks) are available in Tennessee where I live now, but they go with what is the norm for the area. Here, the foundation and crawl way spaces are built up using concrete blocks, then wood framing and brick for the rest. The concrete blocks may cost more in this region than in Florida since more are used in Florida there are probably quantity discounts available to suppliers, distributers, and builders there.

Some houses are made out of cinder blocks. They are inexpensive and last well. But they don't look very nice and stringing electric and other utility lines is a nuisance. In the Middle East, all houses are made out of cinder blocks, laid up in reinforced concrete frames.

houses aren't be made out of cinder blocks because cinder was used in the old days. cement blocks are used to build some houses. cement is much stronger than cinder. cement blocks are also cheap, sturdy, and last a lot longer than wood.

my husband does heating and cooling and I have heard him say that they are harder to heat and cool but I guess it would really make a difference where you live. When I was a child my bedroom at home was made of cinder block and it seemed warm enough. As far as floor covering, you can have tile installed with heat strips under it and the walls would be warm enough.. I watched a show on tv once where they blew insulation down through the blocks. I would look for cracks in the blocks and be sure the roof is in good shape.

A lot of houses in Florida are. One big advantage is termites don't eat cinder blocks. And you can stucco over it to get different looks.

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/tPjir
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.

Because they've been built out of wood for generations - in other words, that's what people are used to.
There really isn't another good reason.

many older houses are made of cinder block. the disadvantages are:
they are porous, unless they are weather sealed
they have no insulation factor
they require extra building material for coverage on the outside and on the inside.
if they crack or break, it requires major remodeling
resources: living 3 years in one
