750 - 1000 miles per quart isn't enough to make any noticeable smoke even if all of the loss is through burning. Have a mechanic perform a "cylinder leakdown test" to identify the exact cause.

I have had 302 that would use a qt before a 1000 miles and it wasn't a big deal it ran fine and i figured what's a dollar every thousand miles. If its the seals have someone start it up after it has set for a couple of hours and blue smoke should come out the pipes when first started if not then I would not even worry about it.

Let it idle for a while.
Then give it some acceleration in park and look for a little smoke, Usually for this car it is the valve seals that need to be changed. You can always try 15w=40 motor oil and see if it makes any difference.
Remember 9 out of 10 its the valve seals. It takes about 7 hours to change all of them.

The valve seals need replacing, see this before, But now thats something I have ran into a lot before, can't say for sure its yours. They can be all replaced without pulling the heads. A good mechanic can do this without pulling the heads.

it ought to have positioned some positioned on on it even if it really will ruin the pump because hydraulic fluid is quite detergent ans degrades the rubber seals, so replace all the seals too. If some keep did this, they should be paying or doing the upkeep for free.

4 qts. in 3000 miles? You must have a broken oil ring. Also, the longer you run it like that, the faster you'll destroy your cats.

take it some where and have it check out .. you could use a big sheet of paper under the car to better check and look at your tail pipe is it wet or dry
