Who is the genius that came up with taking the swings away from the playgrounds at school, or why they can't use their imagination any longer on the playgrounds? I was informed that my child was being a nusence on the playground because she came up with her own version of a ball game called "crazy ball" that she thought of playing four square. Because her game wasn't an "official" playground game she was banned from outdoor recess for a week! Needless to say I raised holy hell. I am aware that there are dangers involved in everyday playing among kids but Jesus God people. We have an obese epidemic with our kids in America. It couldn't possibly be because all our kids want to do is sit in front of some screen with a remote control or game controller could it? I know it is up to the parent but is it really anymore?

Oh, my... don't you go on fretting like you are, mother_flower.

today, your child is a "nuisance" - soliciting and pandering peers to engage in prohibited activities like imagination and "unofficial" play. tomorrow... who knows?!? ...i cringe at the thought of what she might have become if it weren't for the wisdom and forsight from the powers-that-be!

if it were up to me, i would have banned her from outdoor recess for a MONTH!
....how else is she going to learn that she MUST
- think inside the box,
- obey authority w/o question,
- accept the things that she can change,
- and be apathetic to the world ouside her backyard?

People are going crazy with lawsuits right now. I think it's the new fad. Swings can be "dangerous", but then again so can money bars and slides...

I guess schools don't want to be responsible for children getting hurt for any reason.

I would have protested the punishment too. Kids get sick of playing the same old games so when they cant just make something up they watch tv. Boredom is one of the leading causes of the obese problem.

That is so atrocious! Good for you for not letting them get away with it.

I would go further and remove my child from that school at the earlierst possible time. I wouldnt want my child to go to a school that hampers creativity like that.
