congratulations! but that's a question for your doctor to answer, not a bunch of strangers on the internet. i'm glad to hear you are enthusiastic about your pregnancy and want to do it right. your doctor can give you tons of info on how and what to eat, even how much to prevent too much weight gain. just remember the term eating for two does not mean you eat as much as two people. you only need about 300 calories extra each day while you are pregnant. i know in your first trimester all you want to do is eat, and give in to those cravings because your body needs it to build the all important placenta. you should gain about 30 pounds during your pregnacy, less if you are overweight and more if you are underweight. a great book is What to Expect When You're Expecting. it was my pregnancy bible! well congratulations! i hope you have a happy and healthy pregnancy and give birth to a healthy baby!

I researched the same thing when i was pregnant with my first child. I made lists of all the vitamins and minerals that would be essential during pregnancy and the associated foods that were rich in those things so that it would be an easy reference.Get a good preganancy book, it will easily spell it all out for you and get a preganancy journal to track down what you eat, weigh, how baby responds to certain foods, how you feel, baby's activity level etc...It will be so fun to look back on. As far as diet, what it basically boils down to is eat well balanced meals, drink lots of water and juice, get your calcium for sure(or your teeth and bones will degrade severly) and definately supplement your diet with a good pre-natal vitamin. Keep in mind though that unless you are severly under weight or malnutritioned, your baby will get enough nutrients from you as is. Healthy fetuses are surprisingly resiliant and more often than not when a mom's diet is poor, it is the mother who suffers, not the baby. If you don't eat well, you will end up with cavities, bleeding gums, anemia, fatigue, weak bones etc...so eat well for your baby AND yourself. Oh yeah...and no tuna, sword fish or shark..high in mercury, wash vegetables thoroughly, no sushi-you're OB will tell you what to stay away from and should provide you with materials to read
p.s if you drink coffee ,one-two cups a day has been proven to be perfectly harmless.

First of all, hydration is key. Drink plenty of water (at least the 8 - 8oz glasses of day). This keeps everything flowing, and your body digesting correctly. Keep this in mind also - if you're having morning sickness too! Dehydration not only causes constipation, but cramping, headaches, and increases nausea!
Keep in mind the don'ts of pregnancy: Certain fish you cannot eat, and you cannot eat sushi. Stay away from lunchmeat, and soft cheeses (hard cheese like cheddar is good). Eat lean, cooked meat - not red, pink, or fatty. Eat a variety of fresh fruits & veggies, this will keep the fiber going in your body.
Ensure now makes a shake called "healthy mom" - and also snack bars. I've tried them, the snack bars are ok. The shakes taste better than slim fast anyways. When I went to Destination Maternity (motherhood & mimi maternity store in one) - they gave me coupons for this product, and with it a meal planner. If you call ensure, I'm sure that they'll be willing to send it to you. It's a basic meal planner for the pregnant woman - and normal enough to feed other people in the family too.

Lots of protein for child development. Lots and lots of fruits. Avoid smoking, and drinking alchohol, if you can.
Avoid canned foods for a while, especially tuna. Try fresh food.
Oh, and congratulations on your new baby. I'm sure it'll turn out to be as loving as you.

Eat a normal balanced diet...take prenatal pills and folic acid. Oh and get to the doctor as soon as possible. That is essential for a normal pregnancy.
Limit Caffeine intake and of course no drugs, smoking, and alcohol.

Lots of fruits and veggies, protein, and have a variety of foods. Try and stay away from caffeine and anything that is too harsh on the system.
