You can go to your local veterans office, like there is one in Buffalo New York, you'd just look in the phone book or online to find an office near you, you should have a representative that is somewhat local, you can also go to their website and type in your ID number for the claim if you have one or your military number.

Find the telephone number of your regional office of Dept of Veterans Affairs on the internet and call them. I hope you have better luck dealing with them than I have had in the past.

I'm afraid you will have a long wait, it will take anywhere from 6 mo to two years. Get in touch with the Veterans association that helped you file it. If you don't belong to one join it's your best bet.
