i find ppl who say spanking is wrong and doesnt work idiots.
mainly because they never give proof to back up there statment.
there ussually childless or have really bad kids.
*well my kid may have stabbed the babysitter with a knife but i gave him a time out. but then he told me f*ck you mommy and went to play with his knife collection.*
seriously spanking actually works.
if used in moderation.
if you spank a child for every little thing and always use it as a first form of punishment then it does infact teach children violence. it will teach them to hit and then confuse them when they get hit for hitting when you do it to them all the time.
if used as a last resort or for when they do something really bad. then it teaches them that what they did was really wrong and shouldnt be done again (so long as you explain what it was they did wrong)
seriously my sister once took a knife after a babysitter. if it wasnt for spankings she would be a mass murderer by now

OK I Agree! But what does that say for your generation! its your generation that is diagnosing all of the children with " A.D.D and A.D.H.D or A.B.C.D or E.F.G.H or whatever else they are over medicating our children" im am only 19 and maybe i will have a dif opinion when i have kids myself but its up to your generation to change this while you can! it is possible "we" the younger generation isn't running this world yet....so if you are so concerned do something while you still can!

It is just more of what the stupid people in the world are thinking. How about those stupid "time outs"? I didn't have those when I was a kid, I got smacked instead. Or why don't we calm down and not "upset" our children? My parents didn't do that and I came out ok. Everything is considered abuse nowadays. IT seems that society would rather waste time trying to find a treatment for the monster children we have nowadays than use good old fashioned disipline to prevent it.
The people that believe this garbage are the same ones that think that if we love everyone and not offend anyone, that everyone is going to love us back.
ALso it isn't sugar that is making kids bad today , heck I ate plenty of candy and sugary stuff as a kid, it is lack of disipline.

Discipline does not mean physical punishment. Yes, kids needs more discipline, but so does a lot of adult. And it is hard to give what you don't know or have.
Time change.
Kids cannot be raise by books or even "by the book" But we cannot expect to raise our children exactly the way we were raised.
Both parents are working now; daycare and school see more of the kids than we do; a lot of other adults have influence on our young ones.
We can cry the lost of the discipline of the past, or try to invent a new way to discipline that is more flexible, adapted to the world of today.

I totally agree. It is ridiculous that when i am in public i have to worry about disciplining my kids because others might think i am "too" harsh. I dont want my kids to run around wild like so many kids do these days but i get mean looks from people if i so much as tell my daughter to knock it off in a firm no-nonsense voice.
Of course i also get meaner looks if i cant control my child. Its like the entire society is anti-kids sometimes.

I hear ya! When we see a kid throwing a fit in the grocery store my kids look at them in amazement! And I say what would happen to you if you did that? They say get a spanking. And I mean they would get a spanking right there in the middle of Walmart in front of God and everybody! There is no "Wait til we get home or do we need to go to the bathroom"
Me and my husband also don't believe in ADD, ADHD (lol on the ABCD). It's called BAD BEHAVIOR! And sometimes a swat to the behind is just the cure. Kids are smart and they will play you. If they think they can get away with it they will try...wouldn't you? I had heard about the going to jail over "harsh words" but thought...OK hoped, that this was a rumor...

I agree. My parents disciplined me and did their parents and we all upstanding respectful adults. If I didn't say thank you to someone, my parents made me give it back. I don't have children yet but I plan to discipline them as well. Most of the time the problem is idle threats, parents don't follow through because they don't want to hear them cry. I have too many friends that do this yet their kids don't act that way when they are with me because they know what they cannot get away with.

You rock!!!!!! I've noticed a lot of people that have so-called ADHD kids don't believe in spanking. Strange how the 2 go together right? My 2 year old snuck out of the house yesterday while I was giving her baby sister a bath yesterday. She got spanked and told WHY she's not suppossed to do that. She said "I'm sorry mommy," After I talked to her about it. The same child also says please, thank you for everything. It's a crock of **** that these people want to tell ME how to punish my children. They say "spanking leads to violence," or that "spanking makes your child fear you and they won't respect you when they are older." I know I had my butt busted quite a bit when I was younger. I respect my parents and I have NEVER feared them. I've never been to jail, never been violent, etc.

No offense taken, happy to see a parent willing to take responsibility for their child's actions. You either hear"Not my child" or "It's only a phase". THese kids today do not know the meaning of reactions to every action! Let them face the consequences once and they will follow the straight and narrow later.

Our schooling was better than what the kids get today. I think the rulers wanted a class of uneducated workers, so they cut out all the helpful school programs like PE and music, and social skill sets, and the lack of discipline is a by-product of their plan.
