I am not a proponent of Capital Punishment whatsoever so find this hard to answer. I don't think that lethal injection is the most humane way to be executed, it can take ages as many things can go wrong. The method of hanging in the UK was perfected to fine art up until the abolition of the death penalty I seem to remember reading once that a prisoner was once executed in less than 10 seconds and that was from being taken from the condemned cell to the scaffold, being pinioned and then executed.

I think the U.S. only allows for five methods of execution currently: lethal injection, gas chamber, electric chair, hanging, and firing squad. Of these five methods, I would assume the most painless by far (assuming nothing goes wrong) is lethal injection. It's also the easiest on the body. So, if you don't like pain, and if you're planning on having an open casket funeral, lethal injection might be the best way to go.
Would I pick that for myself, though? Not sure. I definitely wouldn't pick the gas chamber or hanging, as strangling to death can't possibly be a fun experience. Lethal injection is (presumably) painless and easy on the corpse, but it's not a very interesting way to go. I'm probably more of a firing squad or electric chair man myself, but the only problem I have with either of those methods is that the guards put a hood over your head before killing you, and who wants to die in the dark? Lethal injection, at least, allows you to keep your eyes open right up till the end.
As much as I might think I'd like to go out in an interesting way, I'd probably pick lethal injection because I've been through oral surgery before and they put you to sleep in about the same way -- you're out before you know it. (In my case I was told to count backward from 100, and before I hit 97 they were telling me to wake up -- surgery was over.) So I guess that as long as the government gives its condemned that kind of option, that's probably the one I'd choose for myself.

If I were going to die, I would definitely want an opioid overdose - morphine, fentanyl, something like that. You slip off into this lovely haze, and then you just stop breathing.

new slant? I would choose to be killed by needle. I would want some one to poke me with a sewing needle once a year until I died.
