I have been dieting and have asked questions , and read other peoples questions and answers on dieting. I have reached a platuae as some had said I would. I read someones answer about if you eat 3lbs of food you have gained 3lbs. My question is that I eat a lot of vegetables from the garden now, say a tomatoe for the day weighs a pound, a cucmber a apple so on , but the calorie intake is only 900 calories. Is there anything to the weight of the food you intake as well as the calories? Should I also cut back to a certain amount of food weight as well as calories?
I hope I haven't confused you as much as I am.

I don't drink anything but diet soda, and I am 57yrs old with chronic back pain, due to degenerative disc disease and will not be hitting the gym any time soon. No need for the sarcasim.

Don't worry about the "weight" of each food in terms of pounds...you will not gain more weight if the food itself weighs more. Just look and worry about the calories...and also look for a high fibre, low carb, and low sugar label. These are the most important things you need to worry about. About the plateau that you have reached in your weight, this is normal and just keep doing what you are doing and you will lose the weight slower now, but it will occur as necessary by your body itself....you can't force it! Hope this helps and good luck!

3500 calories... say that with me... 3500 calories. That is the magic number. So here is an example:

It takes about 2400 calories per day for me to MAINTAIN my weight at 205lbs. Key word is MAINTAIN.... so.... if I wanted to LOSE 1lb I would have to decrease my caloric intake by 3500 calories OR burn off 3500 more calories than I normally do OR a combination of the two.

So as you can imagine... it's easier to NOT eat 3500 calories than it would be to try to burn off an additional 3500 calories in the gym. Put that Soda down and pick up your water bottle and hit the gym... a combination of workout and low calorie diet is how you lose weight.... no big secret.

No, the weight of the food doesn't matter at all. It's ONLY the calories that matter, in terms of weight loss. The only thing your body hangs on to are calories it stores as fat -- the bulk of that three pounds of food you ate is stuff your body isn't going to hang on to. It's all comin' out your rear as soon as you digest it.

By the way, the best way to jolt yourself out of a plateau is to step up your exercise.

It takes 3500 calories to gain one pound. If you eat 3lbs. of food, you will temorarily gain 3lbs, but maybe lose it a few hours later (water weight)... but if the food you ate had 10500 calories in it and you didnt burn that off immediately (like anyone could) then you would gain 3lbs.
