I have the same hair color and have dyed my hair auburn temporarily with Natural Instincts. On the box it says it will last for 28 washes, but with a red color it fades faster than that. The product is very gentle, so it does not dry out your hair. It also produces a great shiny color.
You can also try henna if you do not want to actually dye your hair. There are different types of henna depending on what color you are going for. You might be able to get henna at a health food store. I know for sure you can get it at a store called Lush. Check to see if you have a "Lush" store near you, or you can shop online for their henna products. http://www.lush.com/ Check under the "Haircare" section.

they make some dyes that will wash out in about 8 days. i dont know of any household things that will dye ur hair. i think my friend used kool-aid (it was electric blue!), but i think it was pretty permanent. i wanted to dye my hair black, but not have it be permanent. i found every temporary color u can imagine, but not black! so, go to ur local superstore, or store in general, and look at some of the hair dyes. some of them will wash out fairly soon. but be sure to read the fine print. i found a good shade of semi-temporary black, but in little letters it said: if your hair is lighter than this color, it will not wash out in 1-2 months. i dyed my hair just after christmas, and its still here. lol! so be sure to read the fineprint.
Good luck with ur hair!!!

Buy a temporary dye, then. I wouldn't trust using something like food coloring and soda or whatever you would mix up at home...
