A few suggestions:
1. Get a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It's somewhat dry reading, but does explain a lot really well. It's available in most of the chain bookstores cheaply.
2. Attend RCIA or RCIC (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults or Children), depending on your age and the policies of your diocese. Anyone can register and attend classes and discussions, without any commitment.
3. Talk to a priest or religious (brother or sister). Most of them are anxious to help any interested person to learn more about the Catholic religion.
4. Check out www.newadvent.org, and www.ewtn.com. Both provide excellent reading, including on-line versions of the catechism.
5. After a while, try teaching CCD (religious education for children). Teaching something is the most effective way to learn it. Most parishes are begging for CCD teachers.

Find out if any of your local Catholic Churches have a "Take Another Look" program. This program is designed for adults who were raised Catholic but have left the church for whatever reason. Much of the focus is on answering questions and hitting "hot button" topics.
I could recommend a dozen books, but I don't know what area of religion interests you most. If you just want basics and information, as funny as it sound, "Catholicism for Dummies" is a good source. "Catholic Questions, Wise Answers" by Michael Daley (ed) is a good reference source.
On to meatier books - If you want a Catholic theologian's book on Jesus, "Jesus the Christ" by Walter Cardinal Kasper is excellent. It's a bit heavy, but it is readable. The Vatican II documents take a bit of work to read, but they are very insightful on "modern" issues.
Other than that, the best thing I can suggest is to start going to church. But don't just go to one church - try different churches and different masses. Find somewhere you feel comfortable and just take it in. Listen to the homilies. Some are good, some are rotten, but it'll give you a place to start. If by any chance you have a Catholic college or university near you, attend mass there. The priests are usually also scholars and are pretty interesting to listen to.

Find a good Catholic church in your neighborhood; they will tell you everything you need. It also wouldn't hurt to attend faith formation or even better RCIA (wheather you want to be or already Catholic). Some people use RCIA as a refresher course anyway. Someone suggested cathlic.org; they have a very good site. You also may check out books from books a million or the library. If you put Catholic religion in any search engine you can find tons of information that you may need. Hope that helps.

Going to your local church and speaking to a priest would be a good start; if you want to look online a good site is Catholic.org. They have an extremely helpful message board that can also answer this question.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church would probably also be a good read for you.

If I were you, I would visit a local church, and after Mass, ask the Father about Adult Caticism. Many adults like to learn more about THEIR religion, or a NEW religion they wish to follow.
If the church has a flyer/bulliten, take one, what can it hurt. If there is a phone number for an office, call and ask about the Caticism classes!
Good luck and GOD bless!

There are a lot of great websites, but I've found the Vatican's website quite good. They have a great index of resources including the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

There's a book, Catholicism For Dummies. I own it. It helps explain a lot. I am not Catholic but was with a guy who was, so I needed to learn stuff fast. Good luck.
