How can it be said that Lucifer is Satan when Lucifer is identified in the narrative, but not with a rebel angel. It is explicitly stated: "Take up this proverb2 against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased!" (vs. 4). (The preceding chapter is a prophecy against Babylon itself, but now the prophecy is directed against the king of Babylon).

Some questions require answering:
Is Satan really accompanied by the noise of viols (sound of harps, R.S.V.)? (vs.11).
Is Satan to be covered by worms in the grave (vs. 11) or is he not rather to be cast into the lake of fire? (Rev. 20:10).
Why is Satan desirous of a place "in the sides of the north"? (vs. 13).
If Satan is a rebel angel, why is he called "the man"? (vs. 16).
What land has Satan possessed, the destruction of which merits him dishonourable burial? (vs. 20).

LOL - not laughing at you. Your question is reasonable I suppose.., but the DEE's answer shows the Gay Agenda - taking a question about Satan and turns it into her (or his) lauch pad to defend homosexuality. Like - I guess that makes sense, since it is a subject straight out of the pits of hell..

On the subject of Lucifer being Satan - I really dont know what to tell you except there is reason to believe that one of the early Roman Catholic translators used a nemesis of his, name (a man who's name was Lucifer) as a kind of disguised jab.

There are a couple of things you need to understand that may help answer this question. First, the word translated as Lucifer is not a name. It is only translated Lucifer once, everywhere else it is used it is translated as 'howl' in some form or another. The word Lucifer is not Greek or Hebrew. It is Latin. It means fiey one. This prophecy you speak of actually reads: "Howl oh son of the morning!"
Secondly, Satan is a word meaning "adversary" in the Hebrew and refers to God's enemy in his role as an opposer of God. Just as the word 'Angels' is not a name of a species, but means 'Messengers', it is a job description. Devil (Diabolos) means "Slanderer". The adversary is never named. All we know about him is that he is a fallen angel who lead one third of the angels of heaven in open rebellion against God. I don't know about the viols bit (viols = lyre or a skin bag for liquids), but the "worms in the grave" means he shall be corrupted completely and shall rot (Worms = maggots). It is a figure of speech meaning he shall be destroyed. The lake of fire is a symbolic reference to the fires of Gehenna, which was a vally of fires which were captured by Israel. They were used before that for human sacrifice. After Isreal captured them they were used to burn refuse, and were kept always burning as a monument. The reference to them is used to denote the burning away of the refuse and the destruction of the enemy.
"Sides of the north" = Dark side or borders.
v 16 "man" = "indivdual" not "human"
"destroyed thy land" = "corrupted the land". This refers to the corruption of the Earth which he tricked Adam into giving him dominion of.
Although this prophecy speaks directly to the king of babylon, it has parts which are more fully addressed to God's true enemy, the adversary. It is one of the many 'dual' prophecies in the word which do this.

HE is satan. He was at one time, God's most beautiful angel who rebelled against God and wanted to be more powerful than God. So God cast him out of heaven and will place satan in hell when the end of this world takes place. I'm being raptured with Jesus, You can to by accepting Jesus as your savior, repent of your sins, and invite Jsus to live inside your heart and life. Through this you will be born again and never have to worry about Lucifer or hell.

Not into the study of satan but many christians pass on his beliefs unknowingly.

LIKE YOU, I TAKE THE BIBLE SERIOUSLY!
Many good people build their case against homosexuality almost entirely on the Bible. These folks value Scripture, and are serious about seeking its guidance in their lives. Unfortunately, many of them have never really studied what the Bible does and doesn't say about homosexuality.

We gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender Christians take the Bible seriously, too. Personally, I've spent more than 50 years reading, studying, memorizing, preaching, and teaching from the sacred texts. I earned my master's and doctoral degrees at a conservative biblical seminary to better equip myself to "rightly divide the word of truth." I learned Hebrew and Greek to gain a better understanding of the original words of the biblical texts. I studied the lives and times of the biblical authors to help me know what they were saying in their day so I could better apply it to my own.

I'm convinced the Bible has a powerful message for gay and lesbian Christians -- as well as straight Christians. But it's not the message of condemnation we so often hear.

I'm not expecting you to take my word for it, though. I ask only that you'd consider what my research has taught me about the passages used by some people to condemn God's gay and lesbian children. Then decide for yourself...

MY FIRST PREMISE:
Most people have not carefully and prayerfully researched the biblical texts often used to condemn God's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender children.

As you may know, biblical ignorance is an epidemic in the United States. A recent study quoted by Dr. Peter Gomes in The Good Book found that 38 percent of Americans polled were certain the Old Testament was written a few years after Jesus' death. Ten percent believed Joan of Arc was Noah's wife. Many even thought the epistles were the wives of the apostles.

This same kind of biblical ignorance is all too present around the topic of homosexuality. Often people who love and trust God's Word have never given careful and prayerful attention to what the Bible does or doesn't say about homosexuality.

For example, many Christians don't know that:

Jesus says nothing about same-sex behavior.
The Jewish prophets are silent about homosexuality.
Only six or seven of the Bible's one million verses refer to same-sex behavior in any way -- and none of these verses refer to homosexual orientation as it's understood today.
Most people who are certain they know what the Bible says about homosexuality don't know where the verses that reference same-sex behavior can be found. They haven't read them, let alone studied them carefully. They don't know the original meaning of the words in Hebrew or Greek. And they haven't tried to understand the historical context in which those words were written. Yet the assumption that the Bible condemns homosexuality is passed down from generation to generation with very little personal study or research. The consequences of this misinformation are disastrous, not only for God's gay and lesbian children, but for the entire church.

The apostle Paul says, "Test all things and hold fast to that which is good." By reading this little pamphlet, you are taking Paul seriously.
