First, for Sulli: it is spelled hamster. I used to make that mistake and I'm a good speller.
For monkee9305: I've stuck with the larger hamster varieties. They are more used to human contact in general and are therefore calmer and more gentle. I suggest a shorthair for a first time owner-- fewer tangles and messes to deal with and you won't accidentally pull the fur. Try a male as they are usually gentler than females, in general. Then check out a book on hamster care and read carefully (maybe even several books). Hamsters have allergies and other issues you need to know about. There are also websites and some information right here on answers (use hamster as your keyword). Learn quickly, though-- they only live for a couple of years. Enjoy your hamster!

I prefer rats, they are much tamer than hamsters. But if it were a decision between the two hamsters I would choose a regular hamster. I have raised both and the dwarf hammies are much more high strung and morel likely to bite. I can't count how many times I have been bitten by the little buggers.

Dwarf hamster because you have to not touch it for 10 days. And you can watch it eat or play in it's cage. And sleep too.

I certainly have had the two. Dwarf hamsters are small, and could be as stunning and affectionate as a syrian. In the two circumstances, i might decide for a male. Dwarf hamsters will additionally stay jointly relatively amicably and are as plenty exciting as a syrian. Dwarfs are a sprint tougher to deal with as they're rapid and small, yet having reported that Russian Dwarves have been my first hamsers and that they have got been very affectionate. even nonetheless, syrians, being slightly better, are a sprint easier to deal with so if it relatively is your first hamster then i might propose a syrian. it is cautioned that syrian hamsters won't stay jointly yet on the 2d I certainly have 2 male syrian hamsters in one cage precise next to this pc and that they seem large. they're stunning and lovable and particularly energetic. on the top of the day the determination is as much as you. i've got not at all offered yet another dwarf after my first russian died, via fact i needed to attempt Syrian, and because then have had 4 syrians, the two next to my pc blanketed. i does not pay any interest to all people who says dwarf hamsters are undesirable tempered on account that must be a lie. woman dwarf hamsters are a sprint greater vicious, yet with an agency hand, careful coping with i do no longer see why they does not be as affectionate as a male. via fact I had 3 sisters as quickly as we first offered the russians, I had a male, and my sisters had a woman each. None of them have been as friendly as my male. i'm afraid i do no longer understand what woman syrians are like as i've got not at all had one. once you're nevertheless unsure, circulate to the puppy save and ask the assistants to deal with the two breeds and those you like. See how they react to being dealt with. in the event that they hiss, then they'd no longer be solid tempered. in the event that they seem relatively calm, and friendly, then i might circulate with those. do no longer forget approximately that hamsters do in contrast to being woken up, so in the event that they seem slightly unfriendly after being rudely awoken, you could positioned it right down to that. provide them a pair of seconds to alter, and then see how they react to the assistant. desire this facilitates. i've got basically study somebody else's answer approximately dwarves no longer eating their infants. They do. via fact ours did.
