It depends on where you are in the District. There a e a lot of 1 way streets. sometimes you can't get there from here.

i live less than 5 miles from the exchanges you are asking about, and i can't answer the question.

i have included a URL that should be the most up-to-date info, but they are oping/closing/re-routing traffic everyday.

But if i understand what you want, go to Yahoo Maps, and put in your starting and ending locations.

The map and instructions are about as good as you will get.

If you're not travelling during evening rush hour, and you're in NW especially DuPont Circle, Golden Triangle, Adams Morgan, Van Ness/UDC, that part of town, I'd do the Rock Creek Parkway. Beautiful road and hardly any traffic except during rush hour. And only 2 stop lights until you hit VA! If you can get to the Parkway, take it all the way down, not turning; you'll pass the Kennedy Center on the left and that's when you should move into the right lane, if you're not already there. When the road forks, take the right fork (although it looks like you go straight) which takes you past some road construction and over the Memorial Bridge. Stay in the center lane on the bridge; there is a circle at the base of the bridge, on the Virginia side. As you go towards the circle, stay in the center lane and exit off to the left at the first place that you can do that from that lane--- it comes up on you quick. After you finish exiting, the road will turn into 3 1/2 lanes (it's too big to be 3 and too small for 4, it's weird). Move to the right and take the right fork when the road splits. That takes you right to 395! If you want to know if you are close to the Parkway, send me a PM! It is without a doubt the fastest and nicest way to get to Virginia from much of DC.

I live in the NW quadrant. From the NW quadrant, here are my favorite ways to get onto 395S.

1.) South on 14th St. You'll have to drive through the mall and it's scenic.

2.) South on 9th St. Cut under through the mall so it's quicker.

3.) South on 12th St. I rarely use this... but it connects to 395S also.

Good luck.
