Yes, that is a terrible thing to do to a developing central nervous system. Have your pediatrician sit him down and explain to him how a baby works.

yes, it is called fear conditioning. You can find out more info on this by reading about "little albert" a study done in the 1920's. ALso look at Bowlby's theory of attachment. Consistantly scaring a child can either cause attachent problems (which later leads to difficult behavioral issues) or fear by association (which happened in the case of little Albert) It can also cause both of these problems which can impede your child's emotional development. Your child could actually become afraid of your husband by doing this...
I am sure that he is just having "fun" -- babies are such a novelty at this point -- but it really can be quite traumatic for them. that is a lot of stimulation for someone just starting out in this world. Also, keep in mind that at this stage in your babies development, he/she should still have some of the "startle reflex". So, your baby might be looking scared when it is really just a reflex. Best thing to do would be to take hubby with you to the next Dr. visit and ask the doc straight out about this.

Do you realize what you are asking? This is a form of abuse. Emotional abuse is a serious thing. If you think it can't effect a baby please think again.
Why would he do that? Is he getting a thrill out of it? If he is doing that to a 4 mo. old what is he going to do to the baby at 2, or 5 years old?
You need to think this through and your first and foremost thought has to be about your baby. Make sure the baby is safe.
Please please do something about this. One way or the other, your job is to love and take care of your child.

Yes, this is not a good idea. It's like constant tickling. Your husband may think it's fun, but to the baby it can be an over-stimulating traumatic event that can cause problems later on. Please have him stop. He can play that game with him/her in a few years.

Tell him to stop it...you are supposed to want to make the baby laugh and smile and be happy...not frightened.
