The Principality of Sealand is a sovereign nation which sits entirely on Fort Roughs Tower, a previously abandoned British naval aircraft platform about seven nautical miles off the coast of England (in international waters). Paddy Roy Bates from England claimed the platform as his own sovereign nation in 1967 and has gone to great lengths to legally establish the legitimacy of his nation.
Sealand's main plan for commerce appears to be as an Internet service provider for organizations that do not wish to operate in other countries (where the laws are usually more strict).
Recently a minor fire broke out and destroyed a fair amount of equipment on Sealand, but it looks like they'll make a full recovery.
