Why does it seem to be ok to call white people "crackers" but NOT ok to call black people the "N" word?

Seems a bit retarded to me.

And why can a "minority" play the race card, but I can't?

I don't think it is ok to call anyone anything at all. I was just wondering because on tv white people were being called crackers

We don't have affirmative action in Canada, so I don't really know what it is. But from what I gathered, it means that someone has a better chance of getting into a college or univeristy because they are NOT white.

Come on now...and people wonder why racism, sadly, exists.

Yes it is wrong to call someone a cracker on TV. I do not agree with it. You are Canadian and so am I, but I noticed that living here in America, there is a lot of tension between races.
America has this issue about reparations so they are being very sensitive to the needs of black people. Unfortunately this opens the doors for reverse racism which is "tolerated".

By the way, I am asian-american/canadian, and I have seen the comedy channel where there were black comedians poking fun at asians and slanting their eyes. I do not think it is right to make fun of anyone.

It's really not OK but white folks are generally more self-assured
and not generally prone to let mere words get the best of them.
Plus, unfortunately, much of the black community, in the U.S. at least, have acquired something of an entitlement mentality which
only hurts their cause in the long run. Their own self-loathing gets the best of them. Plus, to be honest, there really is no real
equivalent of the "N" word for us. "Cracker" is just laughable. Doesn't have the venom that the other word still possesses.
But, yes, it is a double-standard and shouldn't be tolerated.

Well, as a white person it pains to say this but I believe it partially has to do with having a past history of pretty much screwing other people and their cultures over. And I agree with the one person on here that made the comment about the "N" word having more venom behind it than cracker. Personally, I think everyone should watch the Chappelle Show...the way he makes fun of rascism is EXACTLY how it should be dealt with!!

It's not o.k. for anyone to call anybody anything! It's stupid and demeaning all-around. It's not acceptable to anybody accept the person playing the race card. The one playing the race card thinks it's o.k. because he feels that his rights have been violated in some way so he retaliates by sinking to this level. There is always a better way to deal with something without resorting to name calling. Sadly, not everyone wants to solve things in a mature way.

I think it's because people like to go against the majority. But calling a white person a cracker is the same as calling a black person a ******* so I don't think that's okay.

Usually, when I absolutely have to play the race card (when someone's calling me a chink, let's say), I bomb their race's stereotype.

Excellent question. I couldn't care less if I get called a cracker and playing the race card is a ridiculous cop-out so don't feel left out for not being able to get away with it.

Racism is a natural attitude. As a White man, I can understand why a minority would hate me due to my race because I hate them even more so. There is absolutely no "logical" excuse for anyone to be tolerant of another race.

It isn't OK to be racist against anyone.

If you want to ever be accepted, respected, admired, understood or even get the attention of anyone else, do your best to live at peace with everyone. This will only bring favor and respect your way.

If you show hatred or ridicule toward anyone, you automatically lose their respect and probably the respect of the witnesses of this act.

So again, do your best to live at peace with everyone!
