What's the full context of the verse? Where in the Bible is it? Without that information, I cannot answer your question.

Song of Songs 3: 5 (NIV)
Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you by the gazelles and by the does of the field Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires.
I understand this verse to mean that we should wait until we are ready to get involved in a relationship leading to marriage and sex. My mother told me that it takes two whole people for a relationship to work. She used keys on a ring as an example. Each key (a person) is complete by itself, but they are held together on one ring (committed marriage). Alot of people get involved in emotional and sexual relationships that cause alot of hurt and complicated circumstances. This verse is a warning to help us avoid unneccessary heart ache. I know from experience the pain that comes from stirring up love before it desires. I wasn't ready and neither were the guys I was in love with. I am now waiting and in the mean time becoming the best I can be for me and trusting God to put me and the right guy together at the right time.

You forgot the ending, until it pleases you. People will stir love in their hearts for only those that love them. People that have problems with others such as discrimination etc can not possibly stir up the love of God in their hearts. So many people smash Muslims on here, I am not a Muslim but a Christian, and it makes me feel so bad for them. People hate others for their skin tone, their voice accent or whatever. Where is the love in that? We are to love one another. We are to help our neighbor. Our neighbor is the world. I have not one single problem with helping someone if they ask, whether they be orange green or purple. I don't care what their religion is. I know what mine is and that is all that matters. I know how the New Testament tells me to treat others and that is what I do.

I think it means that children are not fair game for those who are lonely and looking for a mate. I personally do not think that love=sex, so in my eyes, the meaning of this isn't about sex before marriage. Sex does not awaken love. It awakens a mess and maybe an orgasm, but it brings no awakening of LOVE. You can be awakened to love without having sex, and you can have sex without loving the person. Like everything else written in the bible - we all get OUR OWN meanings from it. Just a FEW of us know that our opinions are not facts.

That is from the Song of Solomon. At the time it occurs, the woman in the story and her beloved where not yet married, so they were saying not to stir up love (sex) until the time was pleased (or right). They wanted to remain virgins.
