My son enlisted in the Marines as an infantry soldier (don't know the exact MOS) and he is in basic training and wants to know how he can change his MOS to sometihing else.

At this time, he can't. When he signed the contract, he had to list a specific MOS of his choice. Until he goes through his training for his MOS and has served at least 1 year in that field, he can't change. After that 1 year he can go to the personel department in his unit and he can then request to make a MOS change, but the Marine ZCorps has the final say. Please tell your son "Semper Fi" from an old Marine, and Godspeed to him.

In the Army, unless your MOS is grossly overstrength, the only way to reclassify is to reenlist for it. I can't imagine The Marine Corps would be much different.

You can only change when you reenlist. From gunnery sergeant USMC
