While it is easy to come to the conclusion that common sense has indeed died; it is more about the fact that people don't take the time to talk to one another any more. I was lucky enough to be raised in a home where my parents felt the only stupid question was the one that was not asked. We spent a lot of time exploring each others interests and learning new things daily. How many people get to do that today? My grand kids only get a couple of hours with their parents a week.

Common sense hasn't died. People are just confused. They don't have or make time to think. Issues may over power your mind. Then there are times when others may have been there & could come up with what worked or didn't work for them.

The problem is that "common sense" is in fact increasingly uncommon. What was seen as societal norms-knowledge and standards that it was assumed everyone knew-is not coming through to the next generation. How will a child learn respect and thinking skills when the role models in his life are instead rude, biased and willing to jump to conclusions without any rational thought processes? I had an incident in a WalMart recently where a sales clerk was pushing a cart piled so high with merchandise that she couldn't see where she was going very well. She accidently bumped a cusomer lightly and hadn't realized she did it so kept going. No damage done, none intended. The customer,a woman of about 40, stared yelling things like "that's so fu**** rude,I ought to kick your ***,etc. We were standing in the return line and she just wouldn't shut up.The clerk was long gone but there were a lot of other people. I was closest to her and was the only one who knew what had triggered the tirade. What bothered me most was that she had a girl of about 10 with her who seemed unfazed by her mother's behavior. What was that child learning-that it's ok to yell obscenities at someone for no reason, that that kind of language is totally acceptable, that responding with irrational anger is ok,etc???Common sense would say that it was obvious this was an accident with no intention of harm or insult. I finally couldn't stand it any longer and turned and made eye contact with her and gave her a questioning look. Her response, predictably, was "What's your fu***** problem?"All I said quietly was "Do you think you're setting a good example for your daughter to follow"She mumbled about it being none of my business to which I replied that she had made it all of our business because we all had to listen to her.She glared at me but did shut up. I had a moment of thinking I was going to be knifed in the parking lot when I left but fortunately I had a lot of shopping to do and she was long gone, thank God. If more people would speak up about this kind of behavior when it is safe to or report idiots who are obscene or insulting on sites such as this, it would send a message that this kind of behavior is unacceptable to the majority and that indeed there are still some shreds of decency and courtsey left.

A lot of people do lack common sense. It is best to just ignore the questions you are not interested in and not try to understand them. Look for intelligent questions that you can relate to, then you can enjoy the site more.

No . . . common sense is still alive and everywhere! Just not on Yahoo Answers! Guess most people who ask ridiculous questions or answer with ridiculous answers don't realize how really stupid they appear. It's not common sense though that is lacking . . but intelligence.

Absolutely true. People have truly lost their mind asking the most ridiculous question. Society is getting worse day by day
