Believing what the Bible says just because it says so could indeed be stupid. For what is a Bible but another book? For the sake of argument, imagine someone so isolated from society but able to read and who hasn't heard anything about any religion at all, suddenly finds himself reading a lost copy of the Bible. He will certainly think it's stupid to believe its claims. Why because he's got no proof that this book IS the Word of God even if it claims to be - anyone can write anything purporting to be what it's not.
But the whole belief of believing in the Bible is not based on the Bible claim that it is the Word of God but because the Church--the community that has given birth to all books in the Bible--declared it to be. There is nothing in the Bible that hadn't been experienced by the Church. The Bible is not a collection of novels. It is a product of real peoples' experiences as part of their bJudaic/Christian communities. Even if there were no Bible, there would still be the Church therefore, stories in the Bible would still be preached.
To question the validity of the Bible is to question the historicity and the truth of the experiences of the Church. But there is no doubt as to the history of the Church since it is still here, having seen the births and deaths of empires and governments. All documents pertaining to its life(discounting everything in the Bible) abound in recorded history. But to question the reality/veracity of its claims is not easy. Why? Because there is no document that can actually deny its claims! Science can't do that because its domain is the physical, observable universe. The claims of the Bible might be too much for some but how can its claims be disputed with no historical document to appeal to? Is there a document claiming John didn't baptize Jesus? Is there a document claiming the exodus wasn't true? No, the burden of proof is not on those who believe but on those who don't.

You should take a college course on the Bible. Its a facinating historical piece that depicts a people's beliefs. I thought the Bible was BS until I started learning about it from a scholarly perspective, you know, studying it like say, Greek Mythology. You don't read mythology and say,, well, that's a lie. You read it and say...wow, that's what those people believed. And the thing is, once you look at the Bible from that perspective, you start thinking...well, why did they belive that? Did it work for them? And sooner or later, you will come to the conclusion that it did work back then and does work now for millions of people in the present day. Then you're gonna ask... WHY does it work for them? And then you're gonna believe in the Bible. Because it DOES WORK. AND IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN A LIFE. You can't sit there and say...the Bible says Adam and Eve and I believe in evolution... because that is taking a complex historical study and dumbing it down. You've got to understand all the world's cultures' creation epics to understand why there is a story about adam and eve in the Bible. Be intelligent. Dig out the REASON for the stories in that book. Then the Bible makes sense. FROM: the world's biggest ex-skeptic

Believing nothing that the Bible says would be at least as stupid as believing everything it says.

The Bible tells about a secret plan of Jesus to be 'born again'.
when it happens ask 'him' if you should have believed it.

millions. the bible says to kill your son if he tries to convince you of another religion. people ignore that part (and many others). it is amazing that so many adhere to such a poorly written and internally inconsistent collection. the beliefs are programmed from a young age and most are complacent enough to accept and embrace them.
