you can cook in the microwave also, poke a hole in it with a fork and cook for 3 to 4 minutes or until you can slide a knife all the way through the center without resistance

Microwaves are great for baked potatoes. I prick them with a fork a couple of times, then bake about 10 minutes; depends on your microwave. They will continue to cook for a while after wards. If you want to use the oven, wash them, dry, wrap in aluminum foil and bake in pre-heated 400 degree oven until done, usually an hour for large potatoes.

About an hour or so at 400. Wash your potato skin then rub lightly with olive oil. Pierce a few places with a fork and place in the oven.
You can also cook baked potatoes in the crockpot. Cover with foil and let cook on high.

Wrap in foil or rub with olive oil (put in pan) and bake 400 degrees for about an hour. You can squish it gently to see if it's soft inside (use an oven glove). Or you can wrap a potato in a napkin and microwave it for about 10 minutes. Just remember to check it by squishing it softly to see if it's mushy enough for you inside.
Here is a website on how to cook a perfect baked potato.

Wash 'em real good. Dry 'em. Poke a few holes in 'em. Rub with a little olive oil and sea salt for salty yummy skins. Bake in a 400 degree oven for 50-60 mins. Do NOT wrap in foil, wrapping in foil steams them, it doesn't truly bake them. I put 'em right on the oven rack, but you can put them on a baking dish if you want. Trust me, these will be the best baked potatoes you ever had, skin and all. Oh, I almost forgot, use russet potatoes for baking.

Rinse the potato off, get a fork and stick holes all around the potato so it can breathe, wrap it up in aluminum foil. It depends on the size, but if it's a small to regular size potato, then warm it for 5 minutes in the microwave, turn on one side, warm for 5 minutes, turn on the other side, warm for 5 more minutes, but if it's a large potato then warm it for 10 minutes on each side

Cook at 350 for about 1 hour. Rub the potato in butter or oleo, then wrap in foil and poke a few holes in it.

This method makes the best baked potatoes ever...
Wash the potatoes and scrub them with a vegetable brush.
Using your hands, rub a thin coating of peanut or canola oil onto the potatoes.
Wipe your hands then sprinkle the potatoes with a little sea salt.
Bake directly on the rack for 45-50 minutes at 425 - 450
Times and temperatures will vary a bit with the size of potato and the particulars of your oven.

Stick some fork holes in the potato and stick it in the microwave. A medium potato should cook on high for 4 minutes. If it's not done, add another minute or two. The plate will be super hot when you take it out, watch out!

when my mom makes them at home, she usually rinses off the potatoes first, then dry them off with paper towel, cut them in the middle, wrap them in pieces of aluminum foil, put them on a cookie sheet or baking dish and lets them cook in the oven for about 20-25 mins. Hope that helps
