First of all to get the whole picture... I breastfed my daughter. When my daughter was 2 or 3 months old mine and my husband's family, and my grandfather and step grandmother (known her all my life) and of course, my daughter, my husband and I were over at my mother's house for either Thanksgiving. That being said, my step grandmother and I were talking on the phone about 4 months after that and my step grandmother says to me, "I want to tell you something, but I'm embarrassed. It was something Kailey did and Papa and I thought it was really sweet. I'm afraid to tell you, you won't get mad, will you?" By this time I was begging to know what it was. She said.... these are HER words, " when we were all over at your mom's house at Thanksgiving, I was holding Kailey and she started rooting towards me and I was real clean and everything and I've got big ole nipples and she just went to town! Papa and I thought it was sweet." I WAS FREAKING OUT. She says that it's normal. I DISAGREE!

I know my daughter did absolutely nothing wrong... she's just a baby. But my grandmother is like 73 years old and our entire family thinks she's NUTS!!! She's narcasitic..... I think it was crossing the line.

Let me clear this up for a few people. My STEP grandmother whom has NEVER breastfed any of her children (the youngest being 36 years old) unbuttoned shirt, pulled out her boob and stuck it in my daughteras mouth. I'm getting so mad just thinking about all of this.

It's not wrong if your step grandmother was a wet nurse and you were in a coma and the life of your child was dependent on this said wet nurse then sure, it would be normal but....it ain't like that so it is WRONG ! And I would question the mental state of your STEP grandmother ?
You know what ? Now I am feeling a bit ill had answering this !

Totally normal! Don't be freaked out, the baby was only doing what comes natural. Now for her to offer her nipples, that is another thing altogether. Nothing really wrong with it, many cultures allow it, they use it as a method of pacification. Just like we use pacifiers in the states, my Cuz was babysitting her nephews in Hawaii and the Mom left her with the baby and told her if he crys, just give him your breast and he will calm down. Well, the baby cried and she offered her virginal untried breast and they were both crying when the Mom returned.

When my son was born, I had two nephews also born about the same time. One was really ill, and my Sister was unable to breast feed him, and I fed them all.

Oh my goodness, that step granny of yours sure're way off the limit, takin' your role to let your baby suckle at her big 'ol nipple. There ain't no grace in that...as much as she try to be nice and care for your baby though. I'd say to tell her nice, straight up and let her off the case if she can...I believe your step granny's understandin' and should be able to work this out with ya. I truly hope this won't create a dreadful scene in the family. She's your baby and everyone gotta respect you as a mama.

I suspect it was one of those things that just sort of happened. It probably wasn't deliberate...although I must be honest and admit I would be disturbed by it. Hopefully, it is just an isolated incident and all of this will pass. In older days, women often traded breast feeding duties...and some mothers even turned the job over to their nannies or other care givers...so we are probably shocked by it for all the wrong reasons. I'd just kind of let it go and be on the alert in the future.

BIG OLE NIPPLES??? QUIT PLAYIN! i know you are freaked out by the mere thought of your daughter sucking her grandma's nipps...yuckeeee yuck! i agree, there is nothing sweet about that! i would be freaked out if i found out that my son sucked on my grandma's nipps. but i will say this...i THINK what grandma was trying to say was that, and its true, that most breastfed babies, when they are hungry, do tend to go to or lean towards people in that manner, especially when the child/baby is being held in what is called 'the football position'. when they are being held, they tend to tilt their little heads towards the breast area and open their mouths. it does happen alot but it is not cool, i said NOT cool for grandma to even allow something like that to happen. now you are (if you haven't already) gonna have to really watch your daughter especially around other women to make sure that does not happen again, and, hopefully grandma knows NOT to allow that to ever happen again. i think she knew she was wrong as hell because she was so nervous about telling you anyways, so she knew what she was doing. just watch your baby!!!!!

Some women breast feed each others babies in some cases. If the mother is too sick to nurse etc..

As for a grandmother allowing this, I think this is VERY weird.

Im sure she did not mean anything sexual by the behavior, but it's WEIRD. Like, not everything is okay up in that head of hers. lol

Well, you are right that's not normal. Because she knew that she could not breastfeed the child. She should had found you to feed your child. Because the baby doesn't know any better. I don't know how she would think this was sweet, cheap thrill but not sweet. When you are around them make sure that you don't leave your baby with them alone. Since they lack good judgement.

Oh how gross! That is WAAAAY crossing the line of decency.

I mean, when my children started to root, they were handed back ASAP or if I was indisposed, they found something (even a clean finger) to placate the baby until I was free.

That makes me sick thinking about it. Honestly.

Sorry you had to go through this.

That is Completely Disgusting That your stepGrandmother did That! I would be livid!
she is right that it is normal for your daughter to want the breast since she is the one breastfeeding. But it certainly is NOT Normal for a person to put your childs mouth on their breast and allow them to suckle on it.

I am Pretty disgusted right now!!! I would certainly think about if this woman has a mental disability or something.
I mean also, who is she to do anything to your child it isn't hers its' yours.

Honey, please. It's totally normal. I didn't even breast feed my daughter (she's 7 months) and the other night we were laying in bed with my husband and I was naked. I had her sitting on my tummy facing me, and she saw my boob, and she grabbed it with both hands and opened her mouth and went to town!
I don't think it was anything abusive what your daughter
