Well, of course. The Catholic Church (called the Christian Church at the time), was founded by Jesus Christ, and continued by Peter. Did you know that there were Christians before the Bible? duh. These Christians were Catholics, because there wasn't any such thing as a Protestant. in fact, the New Testament was MADE by Catholics. The Gospel writers were all early Christians, and it was the Catholic Church who decided what was in the Bible and what was not. So, this question doesn't make sense.

How could the Bible come before the Catholic Church??? Who would write it, Muslims or Jews? No, of course Christians (Catholics) would have written it. So, of course the Catholic Church came before the Bible.

I do. Although many of the books in the Bible were written long before the Catholic Church arrived on the scene, they're the ones who compiled the darn thing.

Of course, during Reformation, certain "inconvenient" Truths (books, chapters, and/or verses) were excised from the Bible by the Protestants.

Isn't that special?!

How can you tell an Atheist from a Protestant? An Atheist thinks that the whole Bible teaches lies. A Protestant thinks that only PART of the Bible teaches lies.

Yeah I knew that. The Catholics are the ones who got together at the Council of Nicea and put it all together, deciding what they wanted in the Bible and what was to be thrown out with the poo poo water, as well as what was to be changed.

Amazing how many Chrissies still believe, despite how many of them ACTUALLY know this, that the Bible is the literal Word of God.

no

the New Testament is quoted almost in entirety by church fathers within the first 150 years except for a very small number of verses, this shows it was earlier

In fact there are significant items missing form the New Testament implying it was written earlier than
- the death of Peter
- the death of Paul
(the death of James is mentioned in Acts ...why not Peter and Paul, because they didnt die yet...)
- the fall of Jerusalem
(the book of Hebrews talks about prests in the Jerusalem temple offering sacrifice, so it had to be fore the temple was destroyed which occured in 70Ad)
It it was after one would expect these items in it.

which place it in the 40 ad to 70ad range and in the lifetime while eyewitnesses to the events were around. In any case we have found fragments of the gospels dating very veyr early and in that range

The desciples took the teachings to the Romans and Romans were the first to come up with Christianity, then came about the Roman Catholic church. But Jesus teachings were taught before anything, it would of had to been.

The Bible is The Word of God. God was,Is and Will be. God was around before anything was created so that means his Word was too. The Bible as we know it today yeah maybe, but His Word has been here forever.

It took that long for the consolidation of beliefs to happen after all the various apostles, etc. had been executed. Not only that who actually cares...Religion was around long before the Catholics and that's the bigger problem...continued existance of traditional Religion. Check out www.uua.org. PEACE!

That's why even Martin Luther said Christians owe the preservation of the Christian faith to the Catholic Church.
