Coca-Cola was first by an Atlanta druggist Dr. John Stith Pemberton(former Confederate Officer) He invented the Syrup on May 8,1886. It was mixed in a 30 gal. brass kettle hung over a backyard fire. It was marked as a brain and nerve tonic in drugstores. Pemberton's bookkeeper Frank M. Robinson was the person who suggested the name "Coca- Cola", The words actually named two ingredients found in the syrup and he thought that the two "c's" would look good in advertising. The original formula included extracts of the African Kola Nut and the Coca leaves. they are boith strong stimulants and actually contained traces of cocaine. In the summer of 1886 a customer walked into a drugstore complaining of a bad headache and wanted instant relief and asked the soda jerk to mix up a glass for him. instead of walking to the other end of the counter to use water the clerk suggested using soda water. The customer remarked that it really tasted great and soon Coca-Cola was served in a carbonated form. In 1888 Asa Griggs Candler bought the company from Dr. Pemberton alsy Baseball hall of famer Ty Cobb was an investor. In 1894 Joseph A. Biedenharn owner of Biedenharn Candy Company in Vicksburg Mississippi first bottled Coca-Cola. By 1903 the use of cocaine was controversial and Coca-Cola decided to only use spent coca leaves and stopped advertising it as a cure for headaches and other ills. In 1929 after Candlers death his family sold Coca-Cola to a group of businessmen led by Ernest Woodruff for $25 million. Woodruff was appointed president on April 28,1923 and stayed on the job until 1955.
Pepsi was next. In 1893 a young pharmacist from New Bern, North Carolina began expermenting with different drink concoctions and tested them on friends and customers at his drugstore soda fountain. In 1898 his favorite formula known as "Brad's Drink" a combination of carbonated water, sugar, vanilla, rare oils, and cola nuts is renamed to "Pepsi-Cola"
and on August 28,1898 Pepsi-Cola receives it first Logo. In 1902 because of its instant popularity applies for a trademark with the U.S. Patent Office and forms the Pesi-Cola Company.1903 Bradham moves the bottling of Pepsi-Cola from his drugstore to a renterd warehouse and sells 7,968 gals of syrup in the first year of operations. 1904 he buys a building in New Bern known as "Bishop Factory" and sells 19,848 gallons of syrup.
1905 Pepsi-Cola's first bottling franchies are established in Charlotte and Durham, North Carolina and pepsi receives a new logo. In 1906 Pepsi gets it third Logo with the slogan ":The Original Pure Food Drink". 1908 Pepsi becomes one of the first companies to go from delivery by horse drawn carts to motor vehicles. 1923 Pepsi-Cola company is declared bankrupt and its assets are sold to Craven Holding Corporation fo $30,000. Later Roy C. Megargel a Wall Street broker buys the Pepsi trade mark, business from Craven Holding for $35,000. forming the Pepsi-Cola Corporation. 1928 after 5 years of losing money Megargel reorganizes the company as the National Pepsi-Cola Company which declares bankruptcy in 1931. 1933 Charles G. Gauth acquires 91% interset in the company and commands the reformulation of Pepsi-Cola syrup formula.1934 the reformulated drink is a hit and has record sales. Guth moves the entire operation to Long Island City, New York.1936 Pepsi grants 94 new franchises and has a profit of $2,100.00.
7Up was laster invented by Charles Leiper Grigg who invented an orange-flavored drink in 1919 called "Whistle" and later another called "Howdy". He decided to try a different flavor drint because "Orange Crush" dominated the markrt for orange sodas. October of 1929 he invented a lemon-lime drink called, "Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime Soda". the name was changed to 7up. 7up merged with Dr. Pepper in 1986.

This is really an eye opener...Water or Coke?
We all know that water is important but,
I've never seen it written down like this before.
WATER
1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so
weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.
3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's
metabolism as much as 3%.
4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger
pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a
University of Washington study.
5. Lack of water, the ..1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses
of water a day could significantly ease back and
joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy
short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and
difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a
printed page.
8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the
risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the
risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less
likely to develop bladder cancer.
And now for the properties of COKE:
1. In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol
carries two gallons of coke in the truck to remove
blood from the highway after a car accident.
2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and
it will be gone in two days.
3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into
the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one
hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke
removes stains from vitreous China.
4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub
the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap
aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals:
Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble
away the corrosion.
6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked
in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into
the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and
bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished,
remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix
with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.
8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke
into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run
through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help
loosen grease stains.
9. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.
For Your Info:
1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid.
Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days.
Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones
and is a major contributor to the rising increase in
osteoporosis.
2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the
commercial truck must use the Hazardous material
place cards reserved for Highly corrosive materials.
3. The distributors of coke have been using it to
clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years!
Now the question is, would you like a coke or a glass
of water?
