I think you could consider asking them if you have a good relationship with them, but first consider why he/she may have an outdoor light on---is it for safety, to prevent dogs from getting into trash cans, he/she gets home from work late, etc.?
Another solution is to buy black-out curtains for your window. They have a special fabric that blocks out all light.

Yet more lovely oblivious people.
First, buy a sleeping mask so you can get some rest.
Second, figure out where you can mount the most annoying BRIGHT light from YOUR property, and aim appropriately.
Actually, if you get along well with your neighbors, just ask him politely. "Unfortunately, my bedroom window is in direct line with your outdoor lights, so they shine in my face all night. Might it be possible for you to shut them off when you go to bed at night?" If you don't want to risk confrontation, buy blackout curtains.

I don't know about your neighborhood, but perhaps it's on for security reasons.
You could certainly ask if they could turn it off, but if they are keeping it on for a reason, they may decline. Or maybe it could be angled another way.
You can get relatively inexpensive blinds that will prevent any light from coming in, and/or get insulated or blackout curtains. Either or both will do the trick.

Are you kidding? Heck yea let them know that the light is a problem. But first make sure you have done everything possible like closing your curtains, because you know they'll first suggest that!

Ask them if they could at least point them in another direction. EVen an inch or two could make the world of difference to you.
My Mom had to ask this of her neighbors. She was very polite and they were more than happy to help.

I think If they don't want to turn their lights off for a reason, I don't think they are forgiving the lights.
U may get a bad response from them since is their house you should window binds and forget about telling them.

Install your own outdoor light. A bright one. (and point it right at his house) Then when he says something about it.... tell him how much you enjoy the bright light in the middle of the night, you thought that you would return the favor. :-)

Go over and tell him that it shines into your window. Ask if he can move it or turn it off at night. He probably doesn't know.

It doesn't have anything to do with being polite. It's about scaring off thugs. Just get blackout curtains.
