I have not been to a wedding in many years (probably 6 years). Is it okay for guests to wear white? It is a very plain white skirt set; not a fancy or formal dress in any way. So there is no need to worry about it overshadowing the bride.

You can not wear a white dress you will piss off the bride. The bride is the only one to wear a white dress and should be the only one center of attention. Don't do it or I will spill red wine all over it.

ONLY if you're a man!! LOL (Sorry...just kidding...) I doubt very much that Joan and Melissa Rivers nor any other major fashion critics were in the crowd scoping out what all were wearing.... I think the fact that it had some color/print on it you were just fine. I myself may have been a little more worried if it were say SOLID white...but I'm sure you were fine! I have to say that I totally disagree w/danielleb above(sorry girl!)...I've been to MANY upper class weddings in which it was a totally black and white wedding in which the guests were all to wear black and/or white, I've seen the mothers of the bride and/or groom where white, as well as grandmothers, I've been to weddings where the wedding planner/host wore white w/a splash of color. There's not really such strict "rules" anymore....if brides are allowed to now acceptably wear pink, black, red, lavendar, peach...etc, for thier gown color - then why can't others wear white?

Even if the skirt set is informal, it is still considered poor etiquette to wear white to a wedding unless you are the bride. Why take a chance? Just find another outfit. Any floral sundress will do. florals are very nice for weddings. If you don't own one, you should be able to get one on sale at a dept. store, this time of year. If you're really broke, there is always consignment.

Enjoy the wedding!

It's usually not formal for anyone other than the bride to wear white at a wedding. I would say, to be on the safe side, try not to wear white, it is the brides day.

Definitely NOT. No one but the bride should weat white at a wedding! Even if it isn't anything fancy. You will end up looking really bad in the eyes of the bride and groom, their families and the other guests.

It's not about the dress overshadowing the bride, it's just the fact that you are wearing white. Please don't wear that dress! It's an insult for anyone to wear white during a wedding, other than the bride.

Rethink your choice. Traditionally only the bride is to be in white. However, if the bride isn't wearing white, then I suppose it would be ok for the guests to do so. You will need to find out what the bride's wearing...if you can't do that, then I would suggest wearing something else.

No. Only the bride is allowed to wear a white dress. Go with something that is summer toned, like a nice peach coloured dress or a beautiful green gown. But keep far away from white, black, and ivory.

No - It's tabu. The bride should be the only one wearing white. Not to say that people don't do it, but it's not appropriate. Wear something else. Even though it's not overshadowing her, it's still not appropriate.

My theory, you know what the answer is, you're asking this question to find someone to agree with you.
