I thought some airlines gave you a 24 hour window after booking to make changes without a fee. Is that not the case?

NOT ANYMORE... They have to CHARGE you for everychange that you make after you finished your reservation.. unless something's really REALLY IMPORTANT happened.
Usually $50.00-$250.00 for changing ur resv.

You have to read the small print. Nowadays you own the cheap tickets when you pay for them. Every airline has different rules - and then it also depends on from whom you purchased your tickets.
