The Bible predicts that, just before the End Times.
A new "combined" religion will rise and lead people astray. The fictional book series _Left_Behind_ addresses this concept very well. It's an easy read, too... anyone interested should check into it.

No, that was not the reason for religion at all. You need to study a little anthroplogy, and stop listening to your preacher. Considering all the slaughtering of people done in the name of whatever god THROUGHOUT history, and to this day, the very LAST thing we need is more religion....one more group's small-minded opinion of what God wants from us, and how we should all live...or else.
Until we learn to worship HUMANITY and our cradle EARTH, we will continue down this path to our own demise.

Kneel yourself down in holy worship to the almighty Flying Spaghetti Monster.
Save the world from catastrophy and global warming by embracing the holy ways of the pirate and setting sail on the high seas to spread the Word of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
Your salvation is at hand and your paradise is the heaven with the beer volcano and the stripper factory.

A religion takes time to develop and grow. And we don't need a new religion.

Humanism and Pantheism both fit this bill. They provide the same sort of spiritual peace that people find in traditional religions, without having to turn off one's brain and accept ludicrous primitive mythology.

There are new religions popping up everywhere.
No, we don't need a new religion. We need less religion and more spirituality.
