The best according to who? And why? Don't most Frenchmen say theirs is the best? And the best for what? - for cooking where you might want a higher smoking point, in salad dressings where you want a lighter flavor or in a sauce where you might want lotsa flavor but not much quantity? Who makes 'the best' cheese, for that matter? Depends on what you like and what it's for. Eh?

i've got no undertaking the place I stay in procuring olive oil from many different international places as properly Italy. there is Spain, Greece, or perhaps from Turkey. besides the undeniable fact that, the designation of "imported from Italy" isn't what you think of. maximum olive oil from Italy is actual a mix of particularly some olive oil from different international places which comprise Spain. The Italian mob use to have a great larger finger interior the import nutrition business enterprise, yet after the passage of the RICO statue interior the 1970's, the mob has been fairly plenty been squeezed out of the import scene.

I prefer Spanish (Columela unfiltered) to Italian or Portugese. I recommend only buying first cold pressed oil, it makes a difference. Oddly enough my favorite olive oil is Halutza from Israel, it's fabulous. I save the really expensive oils for caprese and dipping. I use something less expensive (still first cold pressed) for cooking and dressings.

Olive oil is like wine -- each region or growing collective has its own flavour -- smooth, spicy, light, dark... There can be no best, as it is a matter of personal taste and appropriateness for the cooking task.

California. Some of those Napa Valley oils and Livermore Valley oils rival the best of Europe.

Italy I think, but it probably doesn't matter as long as it's extra virgin- meaning from the very first press. It's got a great flavor and is worth the extra cash.
