You need to be careful in this area. Go too far and invade their privacy and your kids will not trust you. I think that checking their messages is going too far. I know I would be Really upset if my parents did this to me. Making sure your kids are being safe is a different issue though. I think its good to know you all your kids are talking to. There are so many bad people out there who appear harmless. Just make sure that your children dont give out personal info or are talking to a lot of people they dont know. My parents tested me. They got a screen name and pretended to be someone else and tried to get information or pictures out of me. When I wouldnt do it and stopped talking to them they knew I was being safe. Try something like this and explain to your kids what not to be doing. I was a little mad but realized they did it because they cared. I hope everything works out.

if its anything like mine
there are 2 ways
go in to
my computer
c:
program files
look for AIM or aol or some folder that has one of these names
then look for thier user names
then look for some type of log file
or option 2
open up the IM program
and on the tool bar on top look for something about history
i dont use AIM so i dont know exactly what to tell you to look for but it should be similar to this good luck

Get a key capture device. They're pretty cheap. They go on the end of your keyboard plug and record all keys typed for the day. You shouldn't be spying on your kid though unless you have good reason...you could be opening a can of worms.;-) Here's a program version of a keystroke recorder
