Does it return the computer to the manufacturer settings?

The recovery CD is an image of your computer. Normally taken at the factory or in some laptops such as ACERs you can create one when you first log into windows.

When booted, it will display the option to erase the contents of the hard drive and replace with this image.

Yes, it sets the laptop back to the original settings you had when you bought the computer new - including erasing all data you might have stored!! But if you have pop-ups and spyware, it WILL also delete that...............!

lara a recovery cd is to replace any files in case u accidentally delete one or your computer gets like a virus really handy to have. thank you and vote me as best answer please and yea don't put it in your car cd player it wont help you find it don't listen to dumb people peace hope i helped.

if you lose your laptop then you give someone the cd, they play it in their car and it will give you directions to your laptop.

generally it will format the drive and reinstall to factory setting .
i.e when you bought it

it recovers files incase of booting problems...
