It is something you can watch without having to concentrate or think so he can sit there and think in peace.
Or he's feeling rather alone, the presenters can become almost like friends/family to some people.
It's a familiar routine, they never change their on screen patter even the stock looks the same after a while this can be comforting rather like a snuggly blanket.

I like those shopping shows when they do knives/swords and baseball cards.. thats about it.
Plus.. I guess his excuse could be that it will never show a rerun :P

bcuz he might not be able to actually afford the item or is maybe for some certain ittem to show up.
Or maybe hes go no life and is bored he should start to d8 lol

Why don't you ask him and show him all theories posted on answers by people.Maybe it will be the key to better relationship with your dad.
