OK, now I have heard of everything. Apparently, some people:
(a) did not see the fact that I do support LEGAL immigration
(b) yes, my family came here, but they came here LEGALLY
(c) racist?
OK, here is my analogy.
Let's compare this country of ours to a house. Let's say you had a house.
When you leave your house, do you (a) lock your doors, or (b) leave them wide open, so anyone can enter?
Obviously, the answer is (a). Now, does that make you a racist? Of course not. It makes you a smart person.
So, why should the same rules NOT apply to our country?

Good point. A Colombian woman involved with the group "You don't Speak for Me," made the same point. This is our home. We don't just let anyone barge into our home. However, I have been getting alot of really idiotic hate messages lately, and really no matter what you say they always are going to reply,"No human being is illegal." "We are all immigrants." "They are just looking for a better life." And no matter how many times you refute these points, they aren't going to hear it.

A house is not the same as a country. You own your house. Nobody owns a country in the way that a person owns a house.
But lets say you are in your house and you see the people in another house accross the street.
The house is on fire and and it is falling apart. Would you not let the people from across the street in the burning house come over?
What if you saw people in the house across the street and the house was being attacked by soldiers who work for an evil boss. And the soldiers are killing the father and raping the daughters. Would you not let the people in that house come to your house?
And so on and so on... immigration laws are needed but your analogy is not really that good.

You make sense however somewhere along the way in your family tree someone opened the door to their house in order for your ancestors to come to this country so basically yes I agree but look at the way you are putting it it is as if you are saying it may have been ok then but not know. But let me put it to you like this if a baby was left at your footstep in front of your door would you take him in or leave Him there? Because what does a baby have nothing and that is exactly what an immigrant has when he comes here nothing and knows no one.

Because if the Democrats call the Republicans racist then they get votes. They know the Republicans are not really racist, but they'll do anything to get votes. Not that the Republicans are much better, they call the Democrats communists to get votes. In the end, it has nothing to do with immigration, logic, or doing what's right for the country, it is all about votes and power.

The fact that you do not support illegal immigration does not mean your racist anyway... illegal is illegal no matter what race you are. If laws only apply to some people whats the point of having them?
It's to bad not everyone can see it as you put it!

Because our country is primarily composed of public land, whereas your house is private land.
While it is true that not just anyone can wander into your house, they can, in fact, wander around the street outside your house all they want to.
Moreover, keep in mind that you shouldn't think of laws as absolute - that's far too simplistic, and not representative of reality.
Laws are codes of conduct that we all agree to abide by because they aid in the better functioning of civilization.
Sometimes, laws don't work - they're flawed, or wrong altogether. It's not enough to merely state "well, it's the law, so that's what you have to do".

Because a house is private property and a nation is not. I'm with you to a certain extent, but your analogy is a failed one due to that tragic flaw.
I want illegal immigration stopped too, but it takes more than border security to stop it.

I agree with you 100%. My great-great grandfather came here from France and spent most of the rest of his life learning English so he could be an American. What happened to that mind set?

about the house...
that depends.... where is the house located? Detroit? NY? or in a different country...
I mean, no offense, but if my house were in the States, I wouldn't leave the door open ever!(you're right), but I could leave it open if it were in Canada or Oz.
