It depends on you and what you want to do. Some bury them in pet cemetaries and have gravestones. Others bury them in their own yard and put a marker over it. Some take them to the local pound, who destroys them. Some have them cremated and keep the ashes. It's your personal choice. Some even have their pets stuffed by a taxidermist.

We buried our baby on our property, put up a nice engraved headstone, put fieldstone over the burial place, and made a very pretty garden area. I go up there whenever I really miss her, am sad, am happy or feel the need to be close to her again. It worked for us. Some people may not want the constant reminder, but we let her have her beloved woods for her final rest.

It is very hard but it's part of the circle of life. You should be happy and proud of all the good times you and your cat have had together. The ultimate act of love is to help your cat pass on and relieve her suffering rather than prolonging any pain she is in. With all my pets, I bury them and plant a flower above them. Over the years, when I see the flowers, I think back on what joy they have given me and I have given them. If you believe in a life after death, they will be there waiting for you, wagging their tails and smiling. So because you love your cat, the most honorable act of love is to help her pass on and spend her last minutes on earth with her in comfort.

Why are some people such idiots with their answers??????????
They mustn't have any feelings at all for someone's grief. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Obviously you've never lost a loved one or you wouldn't be so heartless and crass.

Sorry, couldn't help myself. To answer the question....bury in the back yard or cremation and keep the ashes.

we had this same thing happen a little over a year ago and we made our pet a burial site with a cross that we wood burned his name into. We also planted flowers around his grave. It helps with the coping of losing a pet especially if you were really close to your pet and you have children who were close to the pet also.

Have them cremated and get thier cremains turned into a gemstone...thats what I want to do anyway...or you can simply bury them in your yard or a spot they loved and put a marker overtop, or if you have a local pet cemetary bury them there. I myself prefer cremation...alot more sanitary and my beliefs are that it releases the soul back into the world to be born again.

I buried mine. It's a little hard knowing they are under there, because you want to hold them so much, I am going to plant a rose garden there, and put his tag on the bush. I also am going to make a headstone. It's going to be special.

We bought a wind chime that had our pets name, date of birth and death with a short poem engraved on the wind-sail. We hung it under a tree by our kitchen window and every time the wind blows, it reminds us of him.

It's really a matter of preference. If anything happened to my dog I would have him cremated and then scatter his ashes in his favorite place to go.
