What's your opinion on smokers? I have been a smoker for 20 years now. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to quit? Alright, I know, that was two questions. (Just quitting cold turkey does NOT work, or everyone would have done it.) Please keep in mind the Polls and Survey area are now gone, so my question seems to have no proper place to go. Sorry about that! I also put this under ettiquette because it's just my rude habit. Thanks for you time, everyone!! :)

I've heard of 4 people who have successfully quit smoking in the last 3 years. This is what they did...they got a calender and picked a date 30 days away and circled it in red. They continued to smoke trying to eliminate a cigarette or two each day. If they did it fine if they didn't it was fine. They continued to focus on their "last day". Every day they took some time to think about what was going to happen on the "last day" the good and the bad. By the time the "last day" came they were psychologically ready. All 4 of them never smoked again. They said it wasn't easy but they each did it.

Firstly, there are tons of products of the market that can help you quit. Mostly, though, you have to make up your own mind that you WANT to. That IS the biggest hurdle.
As for smokers in general, I believe to each his own. I don't think you should inflict it on others, but most smokers are willing to go to designated areas to smoke. What I think is STUPID is the "banning" issue, especially in bars and clubs. If an establishment chooses to allow smoking, post a sign out front. Non-smokers can choose not to frequent it if smoke bothers them. Travelers get STRESSED OUT and need a smoke -- I'd rather they smoke than wig out on an airplane next to me. And banning smoking in public, outside areas? Okay, let's look at it this way. If the governments have decided it's SO bad that it needs to be BANNED to protect the common good -- how about just OUTLAWING cigarettes/tobacco in GENERAL. QUIT SELLING THEM. That way EVERYONE would quit. This selling it but you can't use it is just STUPID!!! Pick a side and stick to it.

I know that in Ohio we have a quit 1-800 line you can call that helps match you with a plan to stop smoking. Maybe there's one in your state?

I am actually somewhat allergic to smoke. We moved into an apartment that had been a smoker's unit and I developed bronchitis from it. I feel bad for smokers b/c they are hooked and it's hard to quit but I also don't like to be around the smoke.

Arizona has a free "quit tobacco" class. Check your state for anything like this. I am taking it now and it seems pretty good. The instructor talks about how you just have to use trial and error methods to break your "triggers" while you are dealing with the withdrawal symptoms. For example, I smoke when I drive so I am trying diversions to break this habit. This week, I traded cars with a friend since I can't smoke in her car. I am hoping this gets me through my cravings while driving.

Tackle one trigger at a time and keep at it! Good luck!

I feel sorry for smokers because they are killing themselves and the people/the enviornment around them. In a way I sorta feel angry with them, but alot of my friends are smokers so I can get too mad (lol). I suggest the patches or the pills (just go to your doctor or local pharmacy). Good Luck!!!

I am a non-smoker (nothing domestic anyway) and I am married to a smoker. I have no problem with it at all. That is his choice. However, we do have only 1 room in the house where he smokes so the rest of hte hosue doesn't get smelly. A lot of my friends also smoke, and that doesn't bother me in the lest, again their choice not mine.

Just stop it. Involve in a new activity. Play cards, join a sports team, or whatever you like.
I think smokers harm themselves and the others. Personally, I am a non-smoker and I hate cigarette smoke.

I think it's bad for your health but, in the end, it's your choice. As a gesture and the hand movements involved in smoking, I think it's fascinating but that's slim in comparison to the harm it does.
When it comes to quiting, I heard it's very hard. A friend told me about a method which is rather unpleasant. You dip a cigarette in milk, let it dry and then smoke it. She said it's so bad, you wouldn't want to go near tobacco ever again, but it's rather traumatic. Good luck anyway!
