But as it is china I doubt they mean that.

Maybe this is something?

Potato Potluck Dish
"This is a very cheesy potato side dish that's perfect for sharing at the Thanksgiving table. You'll definitely be asked to bring it year after year."
Yields 12 cups.

2 pounds potatoes, diced
2 teaspoons onion powder
2 teaspoons minced garlic
2 cups sour cream
2 1/2 cups condensed cream of mushroom soup
2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
2/3 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Bring a large saucepan of salted water to a boil. Place potatoes in the saucepan and cook until tender but firm, about 15 minutes. Drain and cool. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish. In a large bowl, mix the potatoes, onion powder, minced garlic, sour cream, cream of mushroom soup and Cheddar cheese. Pour into the baking dish. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Bake in the preheated oven 45 minutes, or until browned and bubbly. Makes 24 servings

This is not a salad or soup but sounds great!

usually, I have a great mexican dip. it's a lot to it but it's so worth it and she'll be the bell of the ball....
Mexican style dip

1 lb of ground beef, browned finely
1 large onion diced
1 green pepper diced
1 jalapeno diced
3 large cloves of garlic minced
1 can of sloppy joe mix
1 bag of shredded Mexican flavored cheese
1 large can of diced tomatoes
3 scoops of sour cream

In a large pan you want to brown the ground beef, onion, green pepper, jalapeno, and garlic. Add the sloppy joe mix, and diced tomatoes. Cook until hot. Add in the bag of cheese and sour cream. Serve with tortilla chips.

there's also a chili dip that's great with corn chips,

CHILE DIP.

1 BAR OF CREAM CHEESE
1 CAN OF HORMEL BEAN CHILE
1 PKG OF SHREDDED CHEDDAR CHEESE
9 IN CIRCULAR CAKE PAN

SPREAD CREAM CHEESE AROUND TO COVER PAN
POUR IN THE CHILE
SPRINKLE THE CHEESE

BAKE ON 350 DEGREES FOR 10-15 MINUTES OR UNTIL MELTED.

WHEN COOL EAT WITH POTATO CHIPS or corn chips

If she's in the states, yes, or perhaps tacos or something.
If she's in the UK, then it has to be fries or something.
