Depends who had the apples to begin with. If you had the 3 apples and take 2 away then reall you still have 3 (in 2 places). If someone else had the apples and you take 2 away then you have the 2 you took away. Easy.

Well, there are 3 apples. You take two away, so you have two, and there's one left wherever there is. So, there are 3 apples, they're just distributed differently.
