Definitely see the musical. I haven't but I hope to some time in the next year or two. I have the soundtrack, and I fell in love with it. The plot in the book is not the same as in the musical-- some basic points are identical, but generally the musical doesn't follow the book. The book and its sequel are good reads, and the musical is worth it.

I'm right in the middle of the book, and know all the songs (have even performed some of them locally) it's a wonderful musical. very visually stunning. I haven't had the chance to actually see it live, but will this spring, BUT you can watch clips of it on youtube.com that give you a good taste. And from the people I know who have seen it, yes it is totally worth the money.

omg me too! I'm gonna go see the musical sometime this month or next, actually! From what I've heard, it's fabulous, and the music's wonderful! But, realize this. The musical is based on a book that was written specifically for the musical, it's not based on the book by Michael Maguire that everyone knows about. I think the author's name is Winnie Holtzman or something. She and the director Schwartz worked together on it.

The play is much better than the book, and I don't say that very often. I highly suggest you see the musical. It's kinda hard to get tickets though so book well in advance of when you'd like to see it.

It's not a play. It's a musical.

The music from said musical is very highly reputed and seems to be pretty popular. I have not met anyone yet who is displeased with it. Tickets can be very pricey, however.

The book is AWESOME. I hear the musical is quite a departure, however. Glinda is more of a major character than in the book.

If you like this book read his next one too. It's called "Son of a Witch".

Sadly I haven't seen the play.
