Some shelters don't accept pets right away, as it is really the owner's responsibility to find new homes for the animal. Start by putting a listing in the newspaper, telling about the animals, the reason why you have to sell them. Also include information like whether the animals are spayed/neutered, whether their shots are up-to-date, and health problems. Hopefully you can find them a good home yourself, instead of putting them in an uncertain future at the shelter.
Do your best for these animals...don't just abandon them!

I noticed alot of people asking why the pound or shelter won't take them. I live in Scroggins, Tx. The "pound" in Quitman is run by the sheriff's office. It consists of cages on rollers in the car impound section. If they don't catch the dog running loose, they won't take them. As for the shelters, there are none in Wood county where Quitman is. If you don't live in the county where the shelter is, they won't take them.
As for your problem, try putting an ad in the paper. Or call or go to vet's clinics. Dr. Bennett at Quitman animal clinic will likely help you find homes for them. They can get in touch with clients who are looking for dogs or cats for that matter. Good luck. Hope this helps.

To all those people who suggested giving your dog away for free; Please consider the risks. Two groups of people love those free dog ads. Those who engage in the "sport" of dogfighting and those who sell animals to be experimented on in labs. You run a high risk of your dogs being tortured to death if you give them away. Try rescue groups, other shelters and if you do advertise them, try to screen the adopters carefully. The breeds you mentioned do not always adjust well to new situations. If you are not sure they will be well taken care of, consider having them put to sleep. At least you know they will have died quickly and painlessly. When we take on the responsibility of an animal's life we must do what is best for the animal, Not what will cause us the least amount of emotional pain. No solution will be an easy one. Good luck.

Why won't the pound take them? I have never heard of them not taking in an animal. In our area, they no longer allow people to drop them off anonymously (they closed off the cages that people used to be able to put them into at night), but they will still take them if you bring them in. Contact a local veterinarian and ask them what options are available for placement of the animal. If you abandom them on the road, you can be charged with a crime, so don't do that.

Call your local vet offices or pet stores and find out who runs the Animal Rescue organizations in your area. Many will help you with dog food and vet care if that's what you need. All of them will take your dogs and put them in foster homes til permanent, good homes can be found for them.

why would the animal shelter or pound not take them?? thats what they are there for. but do not take then there they will prob get euthanized especially if it is a crowded high kill shelter. if thy are loving and good dogs put an add out in the paper free to good home, or contact local animal saving organizations, why would you want to take them to the pound??

Most newspapers will let you put ad in for free if you're giving them away. There are a lot of good people that would be willing to take a free dog. Give it a try. Good Luck.

Advertise on Craigslist - its free! Or try putting posters around your neighborhood (just the cheap cost of copying paper and staples/tape) Put a notice at your grocery store and laundry mats. research on the internet...many people will pay for shipping the animals if you find the right adoption site!
Best of luck!

Why won't the pound or shelter take him? Does he have some type of behavior problems that you can no longer handle.
If so maybe the kindest thing would be to euthanise him.
