And all life forms are Carbon base, no better, no worse, just different forms of Carbon base.
We are all connected!

It depends on what you mean by proven. Can there be overwhelming physical evidence of a particular thing? Yes.

The problem is, overwhelming evidence is not proof. Nothing can truely be proven because if you go far enough down the chain of evidence, you eventually reach axioms, things that are belived without proof, for example prove that 1+1 = 2. you can't. You just know that it is right, but there is no proof of it. All other mathamatical principals are based on this, therefore, no matter how overwhelming the evidence, nothing can ever be truely proven.

It depends.

In Western logic (maybe Eastern and others to) a proof is a collection of premises or givens and 'operators'. Operators are rules by which information is derived from premises or other information.

In Euclidean Geometry a point is a premise. We accept that their is such thing as a point that is infinitely small and that an infinite number of these points back to back make a line. (The existence of a line being another premise.)

The operators in this geometry are axioms and theorems. One such theorem is : Two angles that are both complementary to a third angle are congruent.

So if we know that angle A is a complement to angle C and angle B is a complement to angle C, then we know by the theorem that angle A is congruent to angle B.

This system of logic, and it's ability to prove things is subject to the truth of the premises. It is a reasonable question: "Is there such a thing as a point?" If not, then all Euclidean geometry is bunk.

So things can be proven if you have true premises. If the premises are false, then all proofs derived from them are of no merit.

The answer to your question then is that it depends on if anything is true.

Not everything can be proven. But many things, especially in the material world, can be proven through science. Other things in the metaphysical world can be proven through logic.

i have to go with bakerman55.

i can prove that placing a glass of water in a freezer with transparent walls and closing the door will result in the water freezing. i can even watch it happen.

of course, it seems you MUST be asking "how can i prove that there is even a glass or a freezer and i'm not just imagining it?"

from the point of view of those of us who TRULY ask ourselves this question it is difficult to prove anything outside the bounds of our own minds.

to me, this is the lesson both behind descartes' and yahweh's statements about BEING being the foundation of everything.

personally, i find the solipsistic model to be quite boring. who wants to be the only being in existence?

----------edit------------

hehe. awesome quote i found on the wikipedia site for "cartesian skepticism"

"Cartesian skepticism is defined as 'Any of a class of skeptical views against empirical knowledge based on the claim that claims to empirical knowledge are defeated by the possibility that we might be deceived insofar as we might be, for example, dreaming, hallucinating, deceived by demons, or brains in vats.' "

No man can prove there is or there is not a God. God on the other hand proves himself to those who truly seek to know him.

There isn't anything real. You are having a nightmare and you just can't wake up. It will never go away.
