i dont care how the fore fathers thought it should be. I want to know how anyone could think that a state inforced faith (faith meaning belief without evidence) would be a good idea.

Faith is a side issue. The real issues are character and spiritual values.

Our forefathers didn't want a theocracy to form that would smother the progressive ideas of liberty and equality that they were trying to establish in a democratic government.

That is why they had a separation of church and state.

That has changed.

Now the problem is that for a large segment of the population, morality is not absolute but relative, indicating a lessening of societal values and moral degradation.

That is why some are trying to emphasize the values that this country was founded upon. But this nation is no longer based on Judeo-Christian values and philosophy as it once was. They are fighting a losing battle, as the Secularists are slowly gaining more and more control.

With no moral compass among the vast majority, governmental corruption is now running rampant, just as it did centuries ago, which led to the fall of the Roman Empire.

Indicating that this civilization will also eventually degenerate into barbarism, civil wars, and totalitarianism.

Humankind cannot thrive without a moral religion to fall back on. When there is no moral religion, there is no need to live by The Golden Rule. When that happens, societies and governments slowly fall apart and are eventually replaced.

That is the nature of these end times.

First off, the makers of this country actually thought the same:

"Because religious belief, or non-belief, is such an important part of every person's life, freedom of religion affects every individual. State churches that use government power to support themselves and force their views on persons of other faiths undermine all our civil rights. Moreover, state support of the church tends to make the clergy unresponsive to the people and leads to corruption within religion. Erecting the "wall of separation between church and state," therefore, is absolutely essential in a free society."
-President Thomas Jefferson, letter to Virginia Baptists, 1808

I do not think state enforced faith would be a good idea, so I cannot answer the second half of your question.

Well, this country was started on that idea, and it will end on that idea as far as I'm concerned. Once we separate church and state this nation is going to fall apart. It's falling apart as it is because of all of those anti-Christ, nut cases out there.

Yes, they should be separate in the USA per the Constitution. But, as you know, that hasn't happened yet.

In other countries, separation is much less and that's the way it has been for thousands of years.

It's not a good idea. People need to be able to decide for themselves to truly be free. That's why we got rid of it here in the states.

It is not. In Christianity, Jesus has told the Pharisees (and us) to "give to God what belongs to God, and to Caesar what belongs to Caesar".

However, it is true that church and state should work together as far as both desire the good of society.
