I just moved into an appartment myself! How to clean a microwave is: Get some vinegar, and pour it into a microwave safe bowl. Heat it up in the microwave for like 3 minutes I think, and then wipe it down with a sponge. It works great!

Put a 2 cup measuring cup full of water and let it boil in the microwave. That will put some moisture in there to soften up the leftovers. Then scrub it out using Windex and a sponge. You may have to soak some of the surfaces. Get a wet cloth and somehow get in over the most stubborn dirt and let it sit for a while. I think you are going to have some hard work ahead of you.

If you have $90 - go to WalMart and buy a new one for the counter top. I might be easier.

I put a bowl of water in and microwave it for a few minutes. This will steam clean the inside a bit and make it easier to wipe up the rest.

Yuck! My least favorite job.

Just put some water in a microwaveable bowl and microwave it for about 2 minutes. This should loosen all the stuck on junk. You should then be able to just wipe it out with dish detergent and water.

Put a bowl of 1/2 water and 1/2 vinegar in it and let it heat and steam for 5-10 minutes. Presto! All you do is wipe it clean.

If it is really bad take a bowl of water or put a wet rag in it and start it for a like 10 minutes..that will soften all the crap up so you can use a scrubber and wipe it all out.
